HP Smart Tank 5101 All-in-One Printer

I cannot get the printer to print color pictures from my apple phone, it will only show me the picture in B&W.  It will print the picture, but in B&W.  I have downloaded the HP app to the phone. 

  I can get the printer to print color from my laptop via wifi. 

The printer is a HP Smart Tank 5100 series.  This is a brand new printer, that I bought today.

If your HP Smart Tank 5100 series printer is only printing in black and white from your Apple phone but prints in color from your laptop, there may be specific settings or issues related to the mobile printing setup. Here's a comprehensive troubleshooting guide to address this issue:

1. Check Printer Settings in the HP Smart App

Open HP Smart App:

  • Open the HP Smart app on your Apple phone.

Select Printer:

  • Ensure that the correct printer is selected in the app.

Check Print Settings:

  • Tap on the print option for the picture you want to print.
  • Check the print settings in the app to ensure that Color is selected rather than Black & White or Grayscale.

Update App:

  • Make sure you have the latest version of the HP Smart app. Check the App Store for any updates and install them if available.

2. Check iOS Print Settings

Print Dialog:

  • When you go to print from your Apple phone, tap the Print option.
  • Check the print settings here as well. Look for a Print Options or Printer Features section where you might find a setting for color printing.

Select Color Printing:

  • Ensure that color printing is selected. Sometimes, the default setting might be set to black and white.

3. Update Printer Firmware

  1. Firmware Update:
    • Use the HP Smart app or visit the HP Support website to check if there’s a firmware update available for your printer.
    • Follow the instructions to update the firmware if needed.

4. Verify Printer Connectivity

Wi-Fi Connection:

  • Ensure that your printer and your Apple phone are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. A mismatch in network connections can sometimes cause printing issues.
