Thank you Kumar,

Have you seen this issue before?

Adding a printer under Windows Settings - Printers & Scanners has different options than

Control Panel - Devices and Printers?

Installing a printer under the "new" windows settings there is no option for printing in Grayscale or Color, the box is missing.

Following the exact same procedure and adding the printer under Control Panel, and the Grayscale or Color box is there....

@lunenburger

There are several users facing this issue in Win 10 PC where there is no option to choose to print in color under printer preferences that can be resolved by either installing the printer using Windows built-in driver or by assigning a TCP/IP port.

But, You have found a new workaround for the issue. I appreciate your efforts.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.

Hi @MRSMaccas

What's the model name of the printer and the operating system installed on the computer?

What seems to be the issue? Are you getting any error?

Let me know.

Hi it’s an envy 5546. It won’t print in colour. It’s a  new HP 15sfq0008na laptop. It was printing in colour then stopped before Christmas. Now there is no option for grey scale.

Please try these steps -

Download and install HP Print and Scan Doctor, it is a Windows tool to fix printer issues.

If the issue still persists, try re-installing the printer driver -

1. In the search box, type and open "Uninstall a Program".

2. Look for HP Printer software.

3. Right-click to uninstall.

4. In the search box, type and open “Devices and printers”.

5. In the Devices and Printers, look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose “Delete” or “Remove Device”.

6. Open the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7. Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”).

8. Click on the "Drivers" tab.

9. Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click “Remove” at the bottom.

10. Select Ok.

11. Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows.

12. Close Devices and Printers Once the software and drivers are removed.

13. Restart the computer.

14. Download and install the software and drivers from here.

15. Click on the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions.

Let me know how that goes.

Hi,

I faced the same issue with HP OfficeJet 3835.

After a lot of test, I solved it installing a new printer using TCP/IP. Following steps were done after cleaning and reinstalling HP driver and SW. Then, the printer is installed.

1. Go to old control panel (type control into search bar at bottom)
2. Go to Devices and Printers, click on add printer
3. Choose "The printer is not in the list"
4. Choose "Add a printer using host name or TCP/IP". Press Next
5. Insert Host Name (In my case HPECA04A). Press Next
6. Substitute Printer driver. Press Next

The new printer installed have now the Color setting while the previous one not.
Note that doing the same procedure with printer not yet installed does not work.

I hope that this could be useful to anyone that facing this issue and to HP to definitively solve this.

Paolo
