Deskjet F380
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I'd been using my Deskjet F380 on a Vista PC, but now would like to use it with a PC notebook on Windows 7.  I can print by simply hooking up the printer to the notebook, but despite having downloaded the drivers etc., (AIO_CDBNonnet_Full_Win_WW_130_141, and sp82049 - the drivers, pilots, HP scan, the elements don't run.  I extracted AIO but it doesn't appear anywhere.  I tried HP Print and Scan Doctor 5.1, it tells me I've not downloaded the software, I click on download, it extracts and thanks me for using HP Scan Doctor.  But still nothing.  SOmetims I get a message saying to connect with an administrator profile.... but I AM the administrator...  ?? Any suggestions?

Hi,
Great for letting me know.

Please unplug the USB, from Devices and Printers right click teh printer icon and select Remove Device.

Next run and follow the following patch:
http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softlib/software12/COL40390/oj-98352-1/HPAMDC50PATCH.exe

If the installation now opens follow the steps on screen, else launch the installation again after running the patch.

Please let me know,

If you did not do so, after you install the Full Feature Software, install the Update for the driver:

HP Print Software Patch When Upgrading Vista to Windows 7

After the Update is installed, Restart the computer and log in

Consider an alternate Scan program (several work with Windows 7):

For example:

HP Scan Extended

Nice, feature packed, scan software -- includes Auto-Crop for images (extract images from document and / or scan multiple images on glass)

So I did already download the driver you indicated (doesn't work)... however, I haven't upgraded a computer from vista to Wiindows 7.  It's a different computer.  I don't want to do anything and then get stuck.  Should I still run the patch?  Again I can print, I just don't have any option to scan, and the scan button on the printer doesn't do a thing.  I've always had to run the scan from the computer.

I am not sure what is in the update — I have not extracted the file data — in most cases the computer and software are smart enough not to load something incompatible.

There is a second (different) update — the description says the patch addresses lost scan files, it does not say anything about fixing a scan button that just does respond at all.  ??

If you decide to install either of the updates, create a Restore Point and then do the installation.

“Stuck”

I should think the the worst that can happen would be that you would need to uninstall the printer software from Programs and Features > Restart > Install the Full Feature Software > Restart

Can you use the Extended Scan program (link in previous post)?

I don't know what's up.  I installed the extended HP scan program, it installs and I get a screen that looks like options for scanning, but when I hit the "scan" button on the printer, nothing happens.  When I hooked up the printer with the USB, it automatically gave me the printer option... I guess I could uninstall everything and try again...to be continued, but thanks so much for your input and advice...!

I might be misunderstanding what you said...

HP Extended Scan is a program you use from / on the computer.

  • I am wondering if you can use a program on the computer to operate the scan.

  • Is "Print to Computer" enabled?

Example

Printer Assistant (shortcut icon on Desktop named for printer) >

Tab Print, Scan, & Fax > Manage Scan to Computer > Enable

Optional: Check Automatically start Scan to Computer when I log into Windows

Close

Scan_Properties_2AScan_Properties_2A

  • Can you Copy an item on the glass (on the printer by pressing Copy button)?

  • Have you Reset the printer as described?

HP Printers - Improving Scan Quality

Step 3: Reset the Printer

If you decide to remove and reinstall the Full Feature Software...

Printer Software – Uninstall Existing Software

If the software is already installed and you want (need) to uninstall it:

If using USB, disconnect the USB cable between the printer and the computer.

Control Panel > icon view > Programs and Features >

Scroll down, click, and Uninstall the software

After the software is removed, Restart the computer and log in

Printer Software - Installation

NOTE:  If using USB, disconnect the USB cable between the printer and the computer before starting the installation.  Connect the cable when instructed to do so (toward the end of the installation procedure).

Download, save, and install the Full Feature Software for your Operating System version

After the software is installed, Restart the computer and log in

Video help

NOTE:  Videos may be found in one or more locations (depending on printer / software / version)

Open the printer’s Software and Drivers page >

Scroll down and select Related Videos > Click View All >

Find and view the relevant video

OR

Open the printer’s Homepage >

Scroll down and select Video Tutorials > Click View All >

Schlomil and dragon-fur :  I usually scan from an application on the computer, I've actually never scanned using the button on the printer.  But on this windows 7 notebook, I do not have the app, despite having downloaded all the drivers etc;

The driver and pilot update I loaded (AIO_CDBNonnet_Full_Win_WW_130_141, and sp82049 - the drivers, pilots, HP scan,) don't run or provide a window to launch, though they "extract".

I don't have a Printer assistant showing up anywhere.

Yes I can make a photocopy.

There is not icon for HP Solution Center (which I had previously on my PC with vista)

If I go to the control panel, the only options concerning HP for removal are :

HP Scan Extended (which Dragon Fur suggested installing, but doesn't work since the scan button does nothing)

HP Update.

So the driver has never installed, despite extraction. Once again, I NEVER get a window for printer software installation.  the driver and pilot updates (aio, etc. cited above) extract but then nothing happens.

Should I remove the printer from the list of hardware hooked up to the notebook?  And remove all the downloads and start over?

Thanks for clarifying @magill, it is now much more clear that the issue relies with the installation itself which won’t launch.

a such may occur due to two possible reasons, either from a security program blocking the installation or due to having an AMD processor.

From the control panel select devices and printers, right click its background area and select device manager.

expebd the Processor category, which exact processor is listed? May it be AMD C-50 or C-60?

Additinally which anti-virus Program do you have installed on your PC?

Please let me know,

Shlomi
