My 85 year old mother's HP 6001 Smart Tank printer worked for 2 months.  Then it unexplicably disconnected from the Wi-Fi and would not print.  I performed a Wi-Fi reset by pressing the Information button to light up all buttons which they did.  Then I held the Wi-Fi and Cancel buttons which made the Wifi button blink blue and the Wi-Fi icon on the LCD panel blink.  Then I used 4 different devices to attempt to connect to the printer via the HP Smart App.  These were an Iphone, an Ipad, a Samsung S22 phone and a Samsung S7 Tablet.  I repeated the Wi-Fi set up sequence for each device.  None of these devices were successful in using the HP Smart App to find the printer's Wi-Fi signal.   At one time when I was trying to connect with one of the four devices, I saw a Wi-Fi signal named TG-Smart Tank or something similar.  However, now when checking the list of available Wi-Fi networks with all 4 devices nothing related to the printer appears.

I tried peforming a factory reset multiple times.  This is  the process I followed.  I lifted the tank lid.  Then I hit the Information button which lit up all the other buttons.  I held the Information and Cancel buttons down until the WiFi button blinked blue and the LCD showed double zeros.  I closed the lid.  I powered down the printer by hitting the power button.  I also powered down twice by unplugging for 3 minutes.  I turned the power back on.  When turning the power back on it takes several minutes before double zero appears on the LCD panel.  None of the other buttons blink as was described would happen after the factory reset.  I performed the Wi-Fi set up again by hitting the information button, then the cancel and Wi-Fi button.  The Wi-Fi button blinks, the LCD Wi-Fi Icon blinks but no Wi-Fi signal is detected by my devices and no HP Smart App on any device and find the printer.

I have turned on location, nearby device scanning and bluetooth on all devices.  I have the devices placed 1 foot away from the printer.

I called HP Support and was online for 3 hours.  They were unable to fix it and I ended the call as I had to go to bed.  During this process some combination of button pushing got the printer to print out the Network Configuration Page.  This page said that Networking Capabilites are Not Available.  It further said that the networking capabilities were disabled when the device was set up.

All I want is to print and not have to spend hours (literally) of my life on line with someone who has no idea of how to fix this problem.  Please help.

Hi @hotman_in_atl,

Welcome to HP Support Community. This is a great place to post questions find answers and tips.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I see that you are facing issues with connecting your HP Smart Tank 6001 Printer to your wi-fi network.

Please follow the steps listed below to restore the printer to its network defaults and then reconnect it to the network.

Step 1: Restore the printer to its network defaults.
1. Press and hold the Information button (i) for 5 seconds until the control panel buttons light up.

2. Press the Wi-Fi button and the Cancel button (X) at the same time for 5 seconds until the Wi-Fi light blinks blue.

Step 2: Reconnect the Printer to the network:
1. Press and hold the wireless button on the printer for more than least three seconds to start the WPS Push Button method.
2. Press the WPS button on your router.
NOTE: The product begins a timer for approximately two minutes while a wireless connection is established. If the printer connects successfully, the light next to the Wireless button glows steady blue.

You didn't read my message very well.  I did all those things you suggested and it didn't work.  Reread my post and not just glance at the subject line.

Hi @hotman_in_atl,

You may connect the printer using the wi-fi direct option as it does not require internet.

Please follow the steps from this document to connect using the wi-fi direct option.

Let me know if this works.
Take care and have a good day.
