To connect your iPad Pro to an HP printer, you can use Apple AirPrint (the fastest and easiest method) or the HP app (formerly HP Smart).[ref_1, ref_2, ref_3, ref_4]
Method 1: Using Apple AirPrint (Recommended)
AirPrint lets you print straight from your iPad Pro without needing extra drivers or complex software, as long as both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network.[ref_1, ref_2]
- Connect to Wi-Fi: Ensure your iPad Pro and your HP printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- Turn on the Printer: Make sure your HP printer is powered on and ready.
- Open What You Want to Print: Open a photo, PDF, email, or webpage on your iPad Pro.
- Tap the Share Icon: Tap the Share button (a square with an upward arrow) in the app.
- Select Print: Scroll down the options and tap Print.
- Choose Your Printer: Tap Select Printer at the top of the screen and choose your HP printer from the list.
- Print: Adjust your settings (like number of copies or double-sided printing) and tap Print in the top-right corner.[ref_1, ref_2, ref_3]
Method 2: Using the HP App (For Setup & Management)
If your printer isn't configured on your Wi-Fi yet or you want more control settings, use the official app.[ref_1, ref_2]
- Download the App: Install the HP app (or visit 123.hp.com) from the App Store on your iPad Pro.
- Enable Permissions: Turn on Bluetooth and Location on your iPad Pro, as the app uses them to discover the printer during initial setup.
- Connect to Network: Open the HP app, tap the + (plus) icon to add a printer, and follow the on-screen prompts to link the printer to your Wi-Fi network.
- Print: Once added, you can use the app to manage ink levels or print documents directly.[ref_1, ref_2, ref_3, ref_4]
Method 3: Using Wi-Fi Direct (If You Don't Have a Wi-Fi Router)
If you are in a location without a standard Wi-Fi network, you can connect your iPad Pro directly to the printer's own broadcast signal:[ref_1, ref_2]
- Enable Wi-Fi Direct on the Printer: Press the Wi-Fi Direct button on your printer control panel (or print a network configuration page to find the Direct name and password).
- Connect iPad to Printer Wi-Fi: On your iPad Pro, go to Settings > Wi-Fi and select the network that starts with DIRECT-xx-HP.
- Enter Password: Enter the Wi-Fi Direct password (the default is often 12345678 unless changed in the printer settings).
