My printer suddenly stopped connecting with my iMac, so I tried to download an appropriate driver afresh. The HP website directed me to install HP Easy Start; after I opened it, it told me I had to download and install HP Smart instead. When I opened HP Smart, it said it can't find the printer. It looks as though this is because HP Smart requires a wireless printer, and my LaserJet 1022 is connected only by USB cable. (The HP Smart screen says "connect this computer to the same wireless network as the printer, then select add printer." It gives no option to connect via cable instead.)
The HP website says the company continues to support the LaserJet 1022 and that it supports Big Sur. Does anyone know how?

This is for printer cable HP Printer install issues for IOS Big Sur. HP's Smart install does not work well with IOS Big Sur. You have to do it manually. Here's how...
Once you download the HP Easy Start, you will be walked through the following steps:
1. Welcome screen displaying terms of use. Click continue to agree.
2. Share usage data, Yes or No. Then continue.
3. Then the program will auto search your computer for any printers connected. You should be good at this point and it will find the printer connected to your computer via USB cable. Once found, click continue.
4. When it asks if you want HP Smart to install the driver, cancel out of that screen and do it manually. It will ask you if you want to download the software to install the drivers. This is where the problems arise. Do it manually. Easy.
Hope this helps!

Thanks for replying, but could you clarify the instructions for step 4? I close the screen as advised, but then how do I "do it manually"? It seems the only way I can get to the driver is through the icon for Easy Start, which informs me HP Smart is better and gives me no alternative except to download that instead.
