HP LaserJet Pro CP1525nw Color Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

On my Laserjet 3050 there is an advanced option to print draft quality. I cannot find such an option on my CP1525nw. Does anyone know how to make this setting. I saw an earlier thread about this issue for Mac. I am running on Windows 10 (64-bit).

Hi @DavidOssher,

Welcome to the HP Support Community

I'd like to help!

I understand you would like to set the print quality to draft.

Change print settings from the app you are printing from.

Open a document, photo, or webpage, click File, and then click Print or click the Print icon to open the Print window.

Open the printing options. The button or link name depends on the app you are printing from.

Windows 10 Photos app: Click More settings at the bottom of the settings list.

Microsoft Word: Click Printer Properties.

Paint and WordPad: Click Preferences.

Click the tabs on the top of the window or click Advanced to access available settings for your printer.

Selecting tabs on the top of the window or clicking the Advanced button

Change print quality settings to suit your print job. Most text-only documents require normal or lower print quality settings, while photos often benefit from higher quality settings.

Print Quality: The main setting to improve the quality of printouts is print resolution. Print resolution is measured in dots per inch (DPI). Higher DPI produces clearer and more detailed prints, but slows print speed and might use more ink or toner. See printer specifications for print speeds (measured in pages-per-minute).

Change print quality on the Paper/Quality, Advanced, or Printing Shortcut tabs, or in Advanced Options.

Note :Draft-Lowest DPI, used when cartridge levels are low or when high quality prints are not needed

HP Real Life Technologies or HP Real Life Digital Photography: Select an editing level to improve the quality of digital photos with resolution or exposure issues, washed out colors, or dark areas. HP Real Life settings can be changed in the Features, Advanced, or Paper/Quality tab, or in Advanced Options. The Printing Shortcut tab might also include shortcuts with this option.

Advanced color settings: Adjust saturation, brightness, and tone, or adjust the levels of each individual color used by the printer. Settings are available on the Color tab.

Resolution: View DPI details based on the printing shortcut or print quality settings selected on the Features or Print/Quality tab, or in Advanced Options

Thanks for the helpful response. However, the printer in question (Laserjet CP1525nw) does not appear to have the options that would allow me to alter the print quality. All I see (i.e. the only option in the drop-down) is "ImageREt 3600" on the Paper/Quality tab. If you look at the equivalent menu for the Laserjet 3050, you see an explicit option for draft quality.

Let's try and uninstall the printer software from the root level on your PC and install the full feature printer software.

First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.

  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP printer entries and uninstall them.
    • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
    • Restart your computer.
    • Click the bottom-left Start button on desktop, type device manager in the search box and tap Device Manager on the menu.
    • Once in device manager, click on the view tab in the top & choose “Show hidden devices”.
    • Then from the device manager list, check the entries under “Printer” – If there are any entries, please right click and choose “uninstall” – In the confirm device un-install pop-up, make sure you select the box which says “Delete the driver software for this device".
    • Also, check the entries under "printer queue" and "imaging devices" and repeat the same exercise. Delete any printer entry or any entry which says “Unknown device”.
    • Once done, close device-manger. Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.
    • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
    • Again, go running window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
    • Once done you can try cleaning out your temporary files and cached files. You can try using automated applications like some cleaner software's that you can download from the internet.
    • Now restart your computer again.
    • Open the Run window again, type “services.msc” and press ok to get services window.
    • Scroll down to “Remote Procedure Call (RPC)” – right-click and go to properties. Make sure the service is started and startup type is “Automatic”.
    • Now scroll up and go to “Function Discovery Provider Host” – right-click and select properties – Change the startup type to “manual” and start the service.
    • Repeat the same exercise on “Function Discovery Resource Publication” as well
    • Windows image acquisition stop and restart the service

Install all the available Windows updates

If it is been a while since you updated your Windows, that is the main reason why Windows says your HP printer driver is unavailable. Here are the steps how to do a Windows Update to install all accessible operating system update.

If you are accessing Windows 10, then these steps are for you.

  1. Hit the Start menu and write an update. After that, click on the “Check for updates” option.
  2. Tap on the “Check for updates” option.
  3. After clicking on that option, Windows will install the updates automatically.
  4. When Windows completes all its updates, start your computer again and attempt to print a file to check if your printer works.

Reinstall the drivers from the Software and drivers page

If the error persists, Try installing the printer with windows built-in driver

Let me know how this goes!

Thanks for the further suggestions.

I am pretty sure it is not a problem with Windows updates as I keep my computers fully up to date.

Regarding the possibility that I have the wrong version or combination of drivers etc., I will try what you suggest. However, I have the same issue on another computer. I think it unlikely that both computers have the same set-up issues.

Are you sure that the CP1525nw does indeed support draft quality printing?

Thanks.

David.

Could you check if there is "light" option under print quality?
