HP Photosmart C6380 All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I replaced a damaged SSD on my Asus laptop and lost all my application software. I'm trying to get operational again, incl getting my old Photosmart C6380 All In One printer working, but have no driver on the laptop now. I have spent hours on the HP site to no avail - the printer isn't found. and I have tried mulltiple HP help programmes. I have also tried some of the non-HP software download sites and have also tried a couple of driver update programmes, but can't get the printer recognised. I noted that one of the driver update programmes did say I had a v old version of the driver, but that's not making any difference. Any suggestions on what I might try next? . I have another older HP laptop which might have the driver on it but don't know is it possible to transfer driver software between laptops - I assume probably not?  Thanks, Al.

Welcome to the HP Community --

True - The HP driver software is no longer listed for this older printer.

True - Although it is possible to copy an executable installation package (Web Pack) from one system to another, you cannot copy installed software.  It is also true that some (older) executable packages won't necessarily install on newer computers.

Hi Dragon-Fur,  Thanks for your reply and I've been trying to condense your advice in my head. Please excuse me if I'm wrong, but does it summarise as use the built in driver in Windows? I've tried this without much success. Pulling my hair out here over the knock-on effects of this damaged and replaced 256 SSD. My Asus laptop is now about 8 years old - W10, but was a good high spec when I got it and still does a great job for me  - at least up to this week :-))

You are welcome.

Yes -- the old HP full driver printer software for the printer is no longer listed as available.

The Microsoft / Windows Built-in Driver is available and -- in general -- should work.

True - the built-in drivers are not ideal.

If they work, it will give you some "breathing room" while you fight other battles.

General Hint for installing the built-in drivers:

If you have the printer connected with a Printer to Computer USB printer cable,

During install of the drivers, select Port that has the word USB in it.

If the printer is on your network,

During the install of the drivers, select Port "LPT1" or similar.

Eight years is a good service life -- I do understand the desire (or need) to keep the old tech going.

Good Luck.

Hi Dragon-Fur, Thanks again for your reply. I can have another go at using built-in driver but I didn't get anywhere with it earlier. Would you have any lead on trying for a driver download from a 3rd party or non-HP site?  On age (a bit like myself! - I'm retired a few years) the Asus laptop is still working fine (up to SSD crash due to inadvertent withdrawal of power during boot up) and has been doing everything I wanted. The older Photosmart printer was also working fine on all functions up to losing the driver - all of which is more than a bit irritating. Thanks Again, Al
