When using insta-ink my printer is listed, but when I search for my printer to add it, it can't be found? How do I correct this miscommunication?

@Mirvingm, Hi there, and welcome to HP Support Community!

Thank you for reaching out with your concern. I'm glad to assist you today.

I understand you're experiencing an issue where your HP printer is listed in your Instant Ink account but isn't found or remembered when trying to add it via the HP Smart app. Let's walk through the steps to resolve this miscommunication.

Ensure Printer is Connected to Wi-Fi

  • On your printer's control panel, go to Wireless Settings and confirm it's connected to your home Wi-Fi.
  • Make sure your mobile device or PC running HP Smart is on the same network.

Restart Devices

  • Power cycle your printer: unplug it for 30 seconds, then plug it back in.
  • Restart your router and the device running HP Smart.

Update or Reinstall HP Smart App/HP App

  • Download the latest version from:

Use Diagnose & Fix Tool in HP Smart/HP App

Add Printer Using IP Address (if not auto-detected)

Restore Wi-Fi Setup Mode (if needed)

  • For touchscreen printers: Go to Setup > Network Settings > Restore Network Settings.
  • For non-touchscreen printers: Press and hold Wireless + Cancel buttons until the power light blinks.
  • Full guide: HP printer setup (Wi-Fi network) | undefined

Verify HP Account Sync

  • Sign into HP Smart/HP App and ensure it’s the same account used for Instant Ink.
  • If the printer is missing from your account, try re-adding it via HP Smart or contact support.

If the suggestions helped solve the problem, please let us know by clicking “Accepted Solution.” It really helps fellow users find quick answers.

A quick “Yes” also goes a long way in showing appreciation!

Take care!
