I can't get printer to print in black and white or grayscale -- recently had to reinstall driver and when I go to print menu it won't give color/black as an option, so there's nothing for me to click and color is the only option. How can this be fixed? I did have black and white as an option before -- and I swear at an earlier time it even gave grayscale.

Hi @chazpbg,

A warm welcome to HP Community!

I believe we can enable grayscale printing from the Printing Preferences. Here is how to do it:

1.) In windows Search and open Control panel.

2.) Click Devices and Printers

3.) Right click the name of your printer and select Printing preferences

4.) Click Paper/Quality, click Advanced and then Enable Grayscale.

5.) Click OK and then Apply.

6.) Try to print.

Let me know how it goes!

If the information I've provided was helpful, give us some reinforcement by clicking the Accepted Solution and Kudos buttons, that'll help us and others see that we've got the answers!
Have a great day!

I have a Mac so this fix doesn't work. Can you suggest what to do with a Mac?

@chazpbg

Print settings on Mac is mostly application specific. However, the black ink only or gray scale settings are typically located under the Media or Paper/Quality menu.

1.) Open a document, photo, or webpage, click File, and then click Print to open the print dialog.

2.) If a Show Details button displays at the bottom of the dialog, click it to reveal all available menu options. The button changes to Hide Details when clicked.

3.) Click the unnamed print options menu at the separator bar to display more settings options.

4.) Select Media & Quality or Paper type/Quality and look for the Draft mode or Color Options for Grayscale.

Instructions on Printing with Black Ink Only on Mac can be found here.

Keep me posted!

So I'm still not sure what to say.

But when I go to print menu for  reinstalled 6700 driver, there is virtually no option to do anything but color. Interestingly the driver for the fax does allow color, but no grayscale. But I can't print using the fax one -- unless you tell me there's a way to do that?

I actually recall having this problem with the old driver, but I think I found a way to print from fax driver -- now I can't seem to do that.

Ultimately, my goal is to print from regular driver and to do so in grayscale -- or, at the very least, black and white.

Even weirder: I just realized that I have none of these problems when I use Safari as my browser, where I have a black-and-white fast draft option (not sure if that corresponds to grayscale). The problems all occur when I use Chrome.

I would prefer to use Chrome, however.

On top of this, I have ANOTHER problem with Chrome and HP, I realize -- the documents are all printing horizontally, which means they are cutting off everything.

Is there any way to solve all these issues in Chrome with HP? Surely, many HP printer owners print from Chrome.

Could you add HP Print for Chrome app and check if you are able to adjust the color options. Instructions on how to print with the HP Print for Chrome App can be found here
