HP OfficeJet Pro 9125e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

I initially installed the driver using the installation package HPEasyStart_16_8_12.exe from HP site but was not happy with the driver's Printer preferences options available so I set up the printer using HP Smart instead. Now printer preferences on offer were different depending on how you access it (HP Smart, Windows Printer & scanners etc. ). Seems as though I have a combination of multiple HP and Windows drivers installed offering differing printer preferences.

Anyway I then noticed a Windows Update error USB - 58.2.1778.23178 Installa error - 0x800f020b.

So I deleted the printer, uninstalled all HP programs and deleted 2 HP drivers using Windows printui /s /t2

Then tried to reinstall drivers using the original HPEasyStart_16_8_12.exe and it stalled on Network Device Installation forever so cancelled that and used HP Smart app installation and this worked but has installed the Microsoft IPP Class Driver instead of the HP one.

I've also tried the HPEasyStart-16.2.4-OJP9120_58_2_1857_Webpack.exe installation package with problems.

All I want is an HP printer driver to control all the features of this printer but can't seem to get there.

Any ideas please?

@BiltongPotroast, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

When encountering conflicts and issues with multiple HP drivers and Windows updates, follow these steps to resolve driver preferences and ensure proper driver installation:

Uninstall Existing Drivers:

  • Remove all previously installed HP drivers and related software.
  • From Printers & Scanners, select each HP printer and click the "Remove" button.

Printers & Scanners, printer selected

Clean Up Driver Store:

  • Ensure all residual files and drivers are removed from C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers.

Use HP EasyStart Correctly:

  • Download and run HP EasyStart specific to your printer model from HP's official website.
  • Follow the steps carefully to ensure the correct driver version is installed.

Check for Latest HP Drivers:

Preventing Installation of Microsoft IPP Class Driver

Disabling Microsoft IPP Class Driver:

  • HP printers should prioritize HP drivers; disable Microsoft's IPP Class Driver during setup if it's auto selected.

Manual Installation of HP Drivers:

  • Install HP Smart Universal Print Driver or specific HP drivers manually. Follow the steps in HP SUPD - User Guide to ensure correct HP drivers are used.
  • Use "Add Printer" wizard in Windows 11 for advanced network setups. Ensure IPP or hostname is correctly input and selected.

Adding a printer, 'Type a printer hostname or IP address' window

Reinstalling Printers After Configuration:

  • After configuring IPP, reinstall the printer using the Printers & Scanners menu and ensure HP drivers are selected, not Microsoft IPP.

Handling Windows Update Error (0x800f020b)

Run Windows Update Troubleshooter:

  • Perform troubleshooting by navigating to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > Windows Update.

Manual Checking and Installation:

  • Check for Windows updates manually and address any pending updates or known issues.

For detailed configurations and further troubleshooting steps, review HP SUPD, HP UPD - Enable Windows Protected Print (WPP) mode and Frequently Asked Questions.
