HP Officejet 5740
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I had to reinstall Windows on my computer after it stopped working properly.  I have been trying to reinstall the drivers for my HP Officejet 5740.  Drivers download no problem but the computer won't recognize the printer via USB connection or wireless connection.  I always get the little red x after trying to install.

The printer won't come up automatically when going into Devices menu Printers/Scanners.  I can manually find it and try to install the drivers that way but then get the following message:

Windows can't install HP Officejet 5740 series kernal-mode print driver.  To obtain driver that's compatible                                  contact manufacturer.

I can use the HP Scan and Capture app so I know the usb cable is not defective.  I've tried going thru all the HP trouble shooting suggestions you download when you have problems.  Nothing worked.  My Windows is up to date.  There are no known viruses on my computer.

What else can I do?

I was wondering if you could help many with another problem not HP related.  After reinstalling Windows 10, I have found that I can't wake my desktop from sleep mode.  The computer seems like it is going to wake up but the screen remains black.  The only way to get it back on it to turn it off and restart it.

I appreciate your help.  I would have posted this sooner but last minute needed to go out of town for the week.

Thanks again!
