Hi @Callie12,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP Officejet 6500 printer won't turn on after not being used for a while, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue.

Check the Power Source:

  • Ensure that the printer is properly connected to a working power source and that the power cord is securely plugged in both at the printer and the electrical outlet. Try plugging it into a different outlet to rule out power source issues.

Power Button:

  • Make sure you're pressing the power button correctly. Sometimes, you might need to press and hold it for a few seconds to power the printer on.

Check for Indicator Lights:

  • Look for any indicator lights or LED displays on the printer. If there are no lights or the display is not working, it could indicate a power supply issue.

Power Cycle:

  • Perform a power cycle by disconnecting the power cord from the printer and the electrical outlet. Wait for about 30 seconds, then reconnect the power cord and try turning the printer on again.

Test a Different Device:

  • Plug another device (like a lamp or a phone charger) into the same electrical outlet to verify that the outlet is providing power.

Replace the Power Cord:

  • If you have a spare power cord that is compatible with your printer, try using it to see if the issue is with the cord itself.

Check for Physical Damage:

  • Inspect the power cord and the printer for any physical damage, such as frayed wires or visible damage to the printer's power input port.

Reset the Printer:

  • Some printers may benefit from a reset to clear any potential issues. To perform a reset, consult your printer's user manual for specific instructions.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
