Hi there 👋
Hope you are well 🙂
I'm experiencing an issue where I get a very limited list of paper size options when I print via my iPad.
Here's what it looks like when I try to print via the iPad's own system print dialogue:
And here's what it looks like when I try to print via HP Smart print:
I've currently got A5 paper in the machine and it's set to use A5 as a default as well.
I can access the Advanced Printer Settings on my laptop and define paper sizes etc. there, but that's not an option on my iPad, and so I am limited to the options given in the print dialogue; which, as you can see above, does not offer printing on A5. I am therefore not able to print A5 paper as it stands and I find that kind of odd considering what modern technology can achieve nowadays.
I hope someone here can help me and many thanks in advance!

Hello Shafts,
I think there are 2 possible fixes. My first thought is the loading orientation. A5 can be loaded with either the long edge across the paper tray or the shorter end across. The tray in the m276 has an A5 marking that shows that the short edge should be at the end of the tray. Please make sure you have loaded the media that way.
The second is making sure both the driver and the tray know you want to print A5. From the front panel choose the Wrench(settings) icon, then the System Setup menu, then the Paper Settings menu, then Tray 1, then Paper Size, then please make sure A5 is chosen, you might have to scroll down to find it. If the system is in a Any paper Any size mode, your symptoms can often occur.
In whatever application you are printing from, please make sure you choose for the printer the media size and type that you want to print on for this job. If the system asks if you want to print on the available media instead of just printing, you probably have a mismatch. Also, choosing landscape versus portrait for this media is always a challenge. If you check the print preview it should show if the print will be on the paper in the orientation you want.
Finally, if you go back to the same menu, on paper settings, you might check the Default paper size. If you are in the US, Letter is probably a better choice than A4.

Hi there @Bernard42,
Many thanks for your thorough response. That was very helpful of you!
However, I'm afraid it didn't work. I tried everything you said, but with no luck – I still can't pick A5 as an option when printing from my iPad nor directly from the printer:
I've had the printer reset to factory default settings, removed it from my computer, and within the HP Smart app + I've loaded the A5 in both orientations. But none of that helped I'm afraid.
The printer seems to understand that it hasn't got A4 in it though as if I try and print that, then it will automatically ask me to load A4 into the manual feed. However, as I can't pick A5 on the iPad, I can't ensure that it prints correctly.
Anyway, I've realized, to my great disappointment and surprise, how few print settings you actually have to work with on an iPad and so I am going to give up. For example, I need to be able to print at 100% scale rather than the default 'Print to size'. If I can't do that, then there's no point for me in even trying to be able to print on A5.
I really hope that HP and/or Apple will come up with a better print solution soon for iOS devices!
Many thanks for your help though!
