Hi everyone,
I just bought a HP Envy Inspire 7200 series printer, however I can't get it to work with my MacBook Air running macOS Sonoma 14.6. Every time I try to print anything (word documents, web pages or pdf documents) the apps just crash and the documents are never printed or appear on the list for printing. The strange thing is if I try to print the documents via HP Smart App everything works fine...
On the other hand I'm perfectly capable of printing documents in a MacBook Pro running macOS Monterey 12.7.6 and from from both iPad (iPadOs 17.6) and iPhones (iOs 17.6).
I've tried the usual solutions: reset the printers on Mac, turning it on and off (Mac, printer and router), searched for available updates or drives. However nothing works.
Any idea how can I solve this?
Thanks in advance.

Hi @misr,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
If your HP Envy Inspire 7200 series printer is having issues printing from your MacBook Air running macOS Sonoma 14.6, while it works fine with other devices, you can try the following troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:
1. Update macOS
- Ensure that your MacBook Air is running the latest version of macOS Sonoma. Go to System Preferences > Software Update to check for updates.
2. Update Printer Drivers
- Sometimes, outdated printer drivers can cause issues. Visit the HP support website to download the latest drivers for your printer that are compatible with macOS Sonoma.
- Install any available updates and restart your Mac.
3. Reset Printing System
- Resetting the printing system can resolve various printing issues:
- Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Right-click (or Ctrl-click) on the printer list and select Reset printing system.
- Confirm the reset and then add your HP printer back to the list by clicking the + button.
4. Reinstall the HP Printer
- After resetting the printing system, add the printer again:
- In Printers & Scanners, click the + button to add a printer.
- Select your HP Envy Inspire 7200 series printer from the list.
- If prompted, choose the appropriate driver.
5. Check for Application-Specific Issues
- Since the apps are crashing when you try to print, check if there are any known compatibility issues with specific applications (like Word or your web browser) and macOS Sonoma.
- Consider updating the applications or reinstalling them to see if that resolves the issue.
Please find the remaining steps in the next post.
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @misr,
Please find the next steps below.
6. Clear Print Queue
- Sometimes, a stuck document in the print queue can cause issues:
- Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Select your printer and click Open Print Queue.
- Cancel any pending print jobs.
7. Check Printer Preferences
- Make sure that the printer settings are correctly configured:
- Open System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Select your printer and check its preferences to ensure everything is set correctly.
8. Use HP Smart App as a Workaround
- Since the HP Smart App is working without issues, you can continue using it to print while you troubleshoot the Mac printing issues. The app allows you to print documents, photos, and more directly from your Mac.
By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the printing issues with your HP Envy Inspire 7200 series printer on your MacBook Air.
If the problem persists, you may want to reach out to HP Phone Support for further assistance.

Thanks for all the help and options suggested. Unfortunatelly, I have tried them all with both HP and Apple Support without any luck:
1) I've already updated to macOS 14.6.1 and the problem persists.
2) There are no Printer Drivers recommended for HP Envy Inspire and macOs 14.
3 and 4) The problem persists
5) The problem is transversal to Safari, Notes, Mail, Word, Pages... every time I select 'Print' the application crash.

Thanks for all the help. Unfortunately, I have tried them all with both HP and Apple Support without any luck:
6) There are no Print Queue. The documents don't even reach Print Queue since as I select 'Print' the App crashes
7) It's selected as the 'Preferred Printer' in System Preferences
😎 I know I can do that, but is super idiotic to have to have that extra work everytime I want to print a document and that wasn't expected when I bought the printer and HP announced the compatibility between this printer and macOS Sonoma.
I have already reach to both HP and Apple Support with no luck. I will end up by returning this printer and buying another from another brand since this one doesn't work as advertised.
