Hello, @CliffGuion

I see that you were interacting with @sandytechy20. I'd like to jump in with a suggestion 🙂

I understand that you are getting a message which says that the PC does not have necessary USB support to install the Photosmart C310 printer while installing the printer. Do not worry, we can fix this by changing certain values in the installation files. Try the steps below first:

  1. Press the "Windows logo" key + "R" to get the "Run" window.
  2. Type %temp% and press ok to get the temp folder. Delete all files from this folder (Skip the ones which you cannot delete)
  3. Now, go to http://hp.care/2vI8397 to download and install the printer driver.
  4. Once the download is completed the files will be "extracted". When the extracting process is completed, the installer will open. Cancel the installer / stop the installer.
  5. Now go back to the temp folder, open the latest HP installation folder which begins with 7z (e.g. 7zs1234)
  6. Open the Setup folder and locate the usbready.exe file and rename it into usbready.old.exe
  7. Browse back to the main extraction folder (the folders who starts with 7z) and launch the Setup.exe file.

Once done, then try to print in letter size and check if this helps.

Let me know if that helps!

Good luck 🙂

This is a great location to get assistance! I read your post and see that you are not getting option to select letter size on your  Hp Photosmart c310 printer. I would like to help you resolve this issue.

Update the printer driver to enable to letter size.

Install HP Support Assistant to update the driver.

Click here and download the HP Support Assistant software.

If that does not work, create a custom size and try printing.

Click here refer the document to print custom size.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers.

USB Error.PNGUSB Error2.PNGThanks sandytechy20, I'll try to make a custom size. But really would like to get the right driver installed. I have the HP Support Assistant software and "HP Print and Scan Doctor" and have tried to update the driver but it doesn't install and I get these error messages. (attached).

I can't find the create custom size. Looked through the HP Printers - Creating Custom Paper Sizes pages and don't see the same windows. I think i need to load the correct driver, but see the error messages i get when i try. Very frustrating, that i cant print a letter from a HP Zbook $4000 laptop  and HP printer. The support has been poor, i was in a chat with HP but they kept pionting fingers. The PC guys said to talk with the printer guys and the printer guys said to talk with the PC guys. I've been wasting way too much time on this.

I'm getting ready to spec a new work laptop and HP is falling off my short list.

Hi Dvortex,

Thanks so much! That did the trick, not only fixed that issue but it allowed me to install the HP Solution Center software. Which gives me all the features. I can now do scans too.

I'm not sure why they could walk me through that, when i was HP phone support.

Thanks again,

Cliff
