General Answer based on the available information
True -- Some printers are not well suited to printing all types of content.
DeskJet Printers, for example, frequently require a larger margin along the bottom edge (1/2 inch - 12.7mm). The "fat margin on the bottom" limitation results in the model type less being suitable for printing anything that requires a smaller margin on every size to fit the content to the size and shape of the paper.
Paper Size and Paper Type must be supported AND compatible with matched in the job configuration.
Duplex is sensitive to paper size, paper type, margins / columns and gutters (distance to "binding" edge)
The Operating System / version impacts the type and kind of printer software that is available for the printer. For example, an "App for that" might not provide access to all the printer features or might be limited in other ways. If available, opt to install the full driver printer software.
If the "leaflet" is actually a (Word or Pages) document that has been Exported to a PDF file, the margins are generally those that were part of the original document.
That said, if the shape and size of the content does not fit on the shape and size of paper you are using, the content would have to be fitted to the size and shape of the paper. "Fit" / "Shrink to Fit" changes the shape and content and can impact margins / gutters.
Paper size impacts margins in that content that is split across sections on the paper must fit the size and shape of the paper at the size to be printed.
For example, a three fold PDF document, printed on a supported printer, using the appropriate printer software, might fit on a standard paper but the same document printed on a half size sheet of paper (making for a very small three fold brochure with tight gutter and margin restrictions) might not work of might result odd or uneven margins.
