I started to have problems printing out documents so I removed my printer and attempted to re-install
the software and reconnect the PC to Printer vi the USB connection. I performed the following steps:
1. I downloaded the EN4500_198.exe file
2. I then double clicked the downloaded file to extract and install the files.
3. When prompted by the software I Pressed the "Connect a new printer" button
4. Under the Connection Options I choose: "USB - Connect the printer to this computer using a USB cable" and then pressed the "Next" button.
The system responded with:
1. A message: "Connect the square end of the USB cable to the back of the printer and the flat end of
the cable to any available USB port on this computer"
2. A check box with the message "Continue the installation without connecting now, I will connect the printer later"
3. The options "back" and a greyed out "skip" option at the bottom of the screen
At this point there appears to be no way to continue the installation since there is no wayto get to the next screen.
If instead you select the option to install without connecting now,
the system outputs the message:
1. Go to the Windows 8 Start Screen
2. Tap the HP ENVY 4500 series printer software icon
which makes no sense under windows 10

Thank you for reaching out to the HP Support community!
The USB cable must be connected between the printer and the PC only when prompted during the installation.
Refer to this video for the installation instructions.
If the USB is not getting detected, try connecting the printer to another USB port on the computer and check if that works.
Let me know if these instructions fix the issue or if you need any further help.

I followed the steps you suggested and left the printer unconnected to the PC until the point
that the screen in the video appears. I then connected the USB and nothing happened. I tried using different
USB ports and also different USB cables. In all cases plugging in the cable did not prompt the installation software
to continue the installation.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks Jerry H

Check if the printer is detected on the PC via the USB cable.
- Press the Windows key and search for 'Device Manager'.
- Look for Universal Serial Bus controllers
- Expand the 'Universal Serial Bus controllers' and check if the printer is detected.
- If there is an exclamation or warning next to the printer, do a right click and uninstall the device
- Disconnect the USB cable
- Reboot the PC
Perform a clean installation
- In Windows, search for 'Control Panel' and open 'Programs' or 'Programs and features' and select 'Uninstall a Program'.
- Select your HP Printer.
- Select Uninstall.
- In Windows, search for 'Control Panel' and look for 'View devices and printers'option under 'Hardware and Sound'.
- In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose 'Delete' or 'Remove Device'.
- Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
- Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
- Click on the "Drivers" tab.
- Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
- Select Ok.
- Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows.
- Close Devices and Printers.
- Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.
- Type c:/programdata and click Ok. Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
- Restart the computer.
- Download the full feature printer software and install it from this link or manually search for drivers from https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/printers.
- Open the downloaded file, follow onscreen instructions and complete installation
- Try printing from your PC again and check if you can print.
If the Printer is not listed, check if the USB cable works.
Connect the printer to a different PC or try using a different USB cable between the printer and the PC.
Let me know how this goes.
Cheers!
