Photosmart C4795
macOS 10.12 Sierra

I would like to setup WiFi printing on my C4795.  As of now, I can only print using the USB cord.  WiFi printing did work on this printer in the past.  I currently run macOS 10.12.  I have tried following all the online directions but I am unable to install or unistall any HP software and I do not see an option to switch to wireless.

Can someone provide guidance?

Welcome to HP Forums,

This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,

Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂

As I understand you are unable to setup WiFi printing on C4795,

Don't worry as I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:

Did you check if the printer supports Wireless network?

(Click here to view, although, it supports: USB 2.0 High-Speed cable or built-in WiFi 802.11b/g)

Did you install the drivers for your printer using the HP website?

(Click here to install if you haven't it)

If you have installed them and yet it doesn't work, I suggest installing the drivers using the Apple software: Click here

While you respond to that, I recommend you attempt the below steps:

Step 1: Prepare for installation

Before setting up the printer on your wireless network, gather the network name and password, and turn on your router, printer, and Mac.

  1. Gather the following items:

    • Network name: The network name is the SSID (Service Set Identifier).

    • Network Password: The password might also be called the WEP key or WPA security passphrase.

    • A computer connected to your wireless network

    • Internet access: HP recommends broadband Internet access such as cable or DSL for software downloads, using Web Services, and getting printer updates.

  2. Make sure the router and computer are turned on, and that the computer is connected to the same wireless network to which you want to connect the printer. Turn on the printer and place it close to the computer and within the range of the router during the setup procedure.

  3. Disconnect any USB or Ethernet cable from the printer.

Thank you for your response.  The solution you proposed is the solution that is published on HP's website and it does not work.

I was able to print wirelessly with this printer for a period of time and it just stopeed at one point so I used a wire to continue printing.  However, I need to physically move the printer now and using a cord is not reasible so I would like to go back to printing wirelessly.

The instructions you provided do not accomplish that - what are the next steps?

Thank you for replying with this detailed response 😉

I appreciate your time and efforts,

If your printer disconnects from your wireless network after setup, if you changed your Internet service provider, or you purchased a new router, you can manually reconnect the printer to your network with the Wireless Setup Wizard on the printer.

  1. Turn on the printer, if it is not already turned on.

  2. On the printer control panel, touch the Wireless icon.

    The Wireless Summary screen appears.

  3. Touch Settings, and then touch Wireless Setup Wizard.

  4. Follow the instructions on the control panel to connect the printer to your wireless network.

Also, need to know if any of your other devices are able to connect to the same wifi network you are attempting to connect this printer into?

Updating the printer firmware might resolve the issue.

For more information, see Updating Firmware on the Printer.

Thank you for your response but unfortunately this is still not working.  The Wireless Setup Wizard gives me the option of connecting via WPS which I have tried in the past and it does not work.  I receive a WPS timed out error.

As far as updating the firmware - I have tried that as well and there is nothing to download when I go to the webpage.

When I printed the Network Configuration Page, the printer is disconnected from the wireless network but it does see my WiFi network and recognizes it as WPS enabled, but is not able to connect

So - Im back where I started, the printer will not connect to the network so I can't print wirelessly.

Thank you for replying 😉

I appreciate your time and I have a few more tricks up my sleeve,

However, before we begin I'd like to know if you have the Apple Airport with your Network?

If yes, you may want to follow the below steps to resolve your concern:

Follow these steps to add the printer on each computer that shares the printer.

  1. Connect the USB cable to the printer and to the USB port of the AirPort Express or AirPort Extreme Base Station.

  2. Click the Apple menu (), and then click System Preferences.

  3. Click Print & Fax or Print & Scan.

  4. Click the plus sign (+), and then select the name of your HP printer.

  5. Click Add.

For more information, visit the Apple support page (in English).

@MRR3

Thank you for responding,

It's great to have you back 😉

I did some research on your concern and it looks like you will need the full feature drivers to configure the wireless on this printer.

Considering the MacOS may not have the required drivers for this printer, you may want to use a Windows PC and once the wireless is configured add the printer to the macOS to have it working.

I also looked for alternatives if you don't have access to a Windows PC and as it turns out, you may have to use an Old MacOS to register the wireless on this printer and then switch to adding the new MacOS to the registered printer.

I don't have a Windows PC and I don't know how to "use an old MacOS to register the wireless on this printer and then switch to adding the new MacOS to the registered printer."

It really shouldn't be this hard...

@MRR3

Thank you for replying,

The only reason this is as hard as it looks is due to the fact that this printer is old and its drivers do not support a wireless setup for the MacOS 12, you could use my suggestion as a workaround to set it up on an older MacOS or on Windows as it may support it as well.

However, I'm afraid the only way you can print on this device is using a USB cable or using a wired connection.

I hope that answers your question as we are at the end of the line considering there are no support options available for the device.
