HP Smart Tank 525 All-in-One Printer
macOS 12.0 Monterey

I'm trying to connect my printer to my Mac, but I haven't found the right software. The HP smart app only gives me the options for connecting via WiFi, but the printer model only connects via USB. My Mac does recognize the printer and I added it as a default printer, but it doesn't print documents anyway. Please help!

Hi @PirateCyberM,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Setting up your HP Smart Tank 525 printer on a Mac OS system involves several steps. If you're encountering issues during the setup process, here are some troubleshooting steps to help you get your printer up and running.

Check Compatibility: Ensure that your HP Smart Tank 525 printer is compatible with your Mac OS version. Visit the HP website to confirm compatibility and download the latest drivers and software if needed.

Connect the Printer: Make sure the printer is properly connected to your Mac through a USB cable or over your Wi-Fi network, depending on your preferred connection method.

Power On the Printer: Ensure that your printer is powered on and has no error messages or warning lights on its display panel.

Install Drivers and Software.

For a USB Connection:

  • Connect the printer to your Mac using the USB cable.
  • Go to the HP website, search for your printer model, and download the latest Mac OS drivers and software.
  • Run the downloaded file and follow the on-screen instructions to install the drivers and software.

For a Wi-Fi Connection:

  • Make sure your printer is connected to your Wi-Fi network.
  • On your Mac, go to "System Preferences" > "Printers & Scanners."
  • Click the "+" button to add a new printer.
  • Your HP Smart Tank 525 should appear in the list of available printers. Select it and click "Add."

Set as Default Printer: Once the printer is added, make sure it is set as the default printer on your Mac. This ensures that print jobs are sent to the correct device.

Test a Print Job: Print a test page or document to ensure that the printer is working correctly.

Check for Updates: Periodically check for software and firmware updates for your printer. HP may release updates to improve performance and compatibility.

HP Smart App (Optional): Consider installing the HP Smart app on your Mac. This app allows you to manage your printer and access additional features.

Check for Error Messages: If you encounter any error messages during the setup process, take note of them and refer to the printer's manual or HP's support website for specific troubleshooting steps.

Restart Your Mac and Printer: Sometimes, a simple restart of both your Mac and the printer can resolve connectivity issues.

By following these steps and ensuring that your printer is correctly connected and configured, you should be able to set up your HP Smart Tank 525 on your Mac OS successfully.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
