HP Deskjet 3720
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hello,

after my Lenovo Laptop not succeeding to communicate with HP Deskjet 3720 I wanted to remove HP Deskjet 3700 series Basic software and re install.
All trials failed with error 5
Finally following Schlomil  post I used the MS removal software which never ended, after cancelling i noticed that HP Deskjet 3700 series Basic software was not listed in apps in Windows 10.
Then I followed in https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Software-and-Drivers/Unable-to-Uninstall-Printer-Software/m-p/... the post of Schlomil 01-27-2020 01:38 PM - edited ‎01-27-2020 01:44 PM
in step 11: Open the FileRepository folder, I tried to remove entries starting with hp...and was denied having not the admin rights exactly as stated by the error 5.
I don't know what to do and frankly I think the time I am losing is way too much compared to the price of the printer.
Can anybody helps me? It's very frustrating
Thanks
Regards
Charles

Welcome to HP Community

I have gone through your Post and would like to help

Try uninstalling the printer from root level and then install the printer using the Windows Built In driver

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
2.) Select your HP Printer
3.) Select Uninstall
4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
6.) Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
8.) Click on the “Drivers” tab
9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
10.) Select Ok
11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
12.) Close Devices and Printers
13.) Restart the computer and install the Windows Built In driver. Link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01796879

If the issue persists try creating a New User Account and then try uninstalling the printer from root level

Hello Krazy Toad,

thanks for your suggestions, i answer bellow with the reference Nr. of your answer:

2) & 3.) HP Deskjet 3700 series Basic software.Select Uninstall:   did it ==> err5

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer &  ‘Remove Device’  ==> worked HP 3720 removed

7.)  -> 11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows. Not having got your msg , as I explained in my post I followed Schlomil post and  used the MS removal software which never ended, but after cancelling it,  i noticed that HP Deskjet 3700 series Basic software was not listed in apps in Windows 10 and tried to remove the drivers as explained by him which failed.

Then I set up an administrator account and started all above again in this account with the same results.

At that point frustrated and without answers to my post here, March 17. I did something which obviously is not kosher:

I forced removed the entries in C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository\.... then I laundched regedit and removed all the entries i found with HP in the registries...... leaving the ones which were not evident and hoping i dinn't removed some important.

Now I consider reinstalling the whole again from my admin account.

I  have 2 possibilities:

a) follow your steps
13.) Restart the computer and install the Windows Built In driver. Link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c01796879

b) do it with the installation program of HP

I tend to follow your suggestion and bypass the HP installation

Kindest regards and thanks again.
