HP Recommended

Purchased HO Office Jet Pro 8122. Cannot get beyond "Cartridge Error or Paper Jam". Neither is correct as have checked throughly. Removed power cable several times and repeated. Impossible to set up. No jams but can hear the machine trying to pick up a piece of paper which fails and then reports error. when I remove paper tray the edge of the paper is slightly bent. Before I take machine back to vendor any ideas to get set up completed?
