How come the HP print service plug-in and the HP smart apps on my phone cannot be "Forcestopped" in app settings?

I don't want them running all the time, only when I am using them and yet...There's no way to shut them off besides uninstalling them.  Which is what im planning on doing if there isn't another workaround.  Printer is getting tossed as well.

Any suggestions?

@Whatever1117374, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

It seems you're experiencing an issue with managing app settings for the HP Print Service Plugin and HP Smart apps on your phone. Typically, apps that are part of the system or have ongoing services running in the background might be difficult to force stop. This behavior is often due to these applications being essential for continuous operations like printing services and notifications, which require them to run without interruption.

Here are a few reasons why you might be unable to "Force stop" these apps:

System Integration: Some apps, especially ones like HP Smart that handle active connections and processes, are designed to remain active to ensure functionality like printing services are not disrupted.

Background Services: These apps may run background services that are essential for notifications, auto-updates, or continuous connectivity with HP printers, which is why they can't be stopped using standard app settings.

Operating System Restrictions: Your phone's operating system might restrict the force stop option to prevent any interruption in services that are deemed critical for system operations.

If you need to manage these apps effectively, you might consider disabling additional features within the app itself, or uninstalling and reinstalling the app if you believe it's malfunctioning. Always ensure you have the latest version of the app installed to minimize issues related to app performance.

If you continue to experience problems, you might want to reach out to HP Support for further assistance.

I hope this helps.

I appreciate the detailed and thoughtful answer.

My response to it is there is absolutely nothing essential about a printer service app running on my phone.

Adding to that, every other app that is installed can be force stopped. Every single app...except hp.

It was purposely coded to be this way and im curious as to why when there are no other apps coded this way.

Hell, even Samsung apps that will literally crash my phone and make it reboot can be force stopped.

Why?

Hey @Whatever1117374,

Thank you for your response

Since these settings are specific to your Android device, it's typically best to reach out to the device manufacturer for support. However, you can try the following steps to prevent the app from running in the background:

Select the app → Go to app info → battery usage → disable allow background activity.

I hope this helps.
