HP Photosmart B8550 Photo Printer
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I cannot get my Windows10 Pro system to find/install a printer driver. Every whichway I try it just says driver not installed  HP website just refers back to driver in Windows (Not my Windows!!!!) looking up old drivers on even non HP websites has the Download word struck through so can not be downloaded! This is a 'new' PC  (new 'old stock' Dell Precision Tower 7810) with a new install of Windows 10 It sometimes gets confused by my installed Designjet 510 software. I've never had a problem like this before my previous Win 10 Workstation(Dell Precision T5500) had no problem & my Dell Laptop Workstation Precision 4700 has both printers/plotters installed without a problem.  It seems to only become a problem with my new Windows 10 Pro machine. Is the latest version of Windows 10 causing the trouble? Does it no longer have the B8550 driver in its library? So frustrating!!

@KeithOT

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help.

I would suggest you try the Windows built-in drivers. Follow the steps below:

•    Go to Control Panel - Devices and Printers - Click on "Add printer" and follow the on-screen instructions.

•    When the page prompts for the drivers, select "Windows update". The driver list will be updated.

•    Click HP, Hewlett Packard, or Hewlett-Packard in the Manufacturer pane, and then click the name of your printer in the Printers pane.

Refer to this document HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver for help.

Let me know if this helps.

Thanks!

Have a great day!

Hi Betty 0610

Well that worked  & got me a driver which installed OK - BUT - it won't print a test page just throws up an error each time. I tried a reinstall,  no luck. I switched off & unplugged the printer then reinstalled & reconnected still got the same error. I then fired up my Dell M4700 Laptop which has windows 10 installed plugged in the Printer & it worked perfectly! So the printer is fine the error is in the Desktop 'new' driver installation- Ye Gods am I getting fed up with this!
