Howdy, I've had this printer for a while but while trying to install drivers on a new-ish laptop, the drivers can't install. I tried using the HP Smart app and manually downloading the drivers, but there always seems to be a problem during installation. The error message that came up said that "Windows found drivers for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install them... The driver cannot be installed because it is either not digitally signed or not signed in the appropriate manner. Contact your hardware vendor." I, of course, tried, but my warranty expired. I hope the community will be able to help me here. Thank you.

Hi @DukeofAwesome

Welcome to the HP Support Community. I understand you are trying to install the printer driver on the PC. I'd be happy to assist you. Let us try these steps:

Make sure the PC is up to date. Install the pending windows update.

Disable any firewall/anti-virus program until the installation is complete.

Disable the User account control

  1. Type UAC in the search field on your taskbar. (If the search field isn't visible, right-click the Start button and choose Search.)
  2. Click Change User Account Control settings in the search results.
  3. Then do one of the following:
    • To turn UAC off, drag the slider down to Never notify and click OK.
    • To turn UAC on, drag the slider up to the desired level of security and click OK. (later part)
  4. You may be prompted to confirm your selection or enter an administrator password.
  5. Reboot your computer for the change to take effect.

Run HP Print and Scan Doctor to diagnose and fix any driver issue

Click here to download the file. Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and click on 'Fix printing'.

If the issue persists, proceed to the next step.

Clean reinstallation of Pre-installed HP drivers

  1.  In Windows, search for and open Programs and features
  2.  Select your HP Printer
  3.  Select Uninstall
  4.  In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers
  5.  In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose ‘Delete’ or ‘Remove Device’
  6.  Open up the run command with the “Windows key + R” key combo.
  7.  Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between “printui.exe” and “/s”)
  8.  Click on the “Drivers” tab
  9.  Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom
  10.  Select Ok
  11.  Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows
  12.  Close Devices and Printers, restart the computer.

Click here to download the HP Full-featured driver.

Once downloaded, make sure to run the file to start the installation and follow the on-screen instructions.

Try printing.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Hi, thanks for your help, but it didn't fix my driver issue. I attempted both solutions and I still have the same problem. However, I was looking at the drivers that my computer has installed for my printer, and it's using drivers from Microsoft. Is that intentional, or could that be the source of the problem?

@DukeofAwesome

Using the Windows built-in drivers to print is the last resort if the printer driver does not help. As you have tried installing the full-featured driver and the HP Smart app, the issue could be with the Win OS. You may try creating a new user account and install the full-featured driver to check if it helps.

To know how to create a new user account, refer to this document.

Let me know how it goes.
