Hi all.
I'm trying to install the HP Smart app on my Lenovo Legion Y540 15 (Windows 10 64bit), so that I can get full functionality with my HP OfficeJet 3835 All-in-One Printer.
Nowadays, you cannot download the app from the HP site, you have to install it from Microsoft Store. If that process goes wrong, are we basically screwed? There is now no other way to install it, as far as I know.
This is now my second attempt to install. On my first attempt, some weeks ago, something went wrong and the app didn't install but Microsoft Store thought it had, therefore it didn't allow me to initialise the installation again.
Today (obviously after several full shut downs and restarts), I click on install on the Microsoft Store app and it says "Pending." This state does not change. It is stuck with a the small loading/revolving bubbles and makes no progress.
What can I do? As far as I understand, once you have purchased or claimed (owned) an app in Microsoft Store, you can no longer un-own it. Clearly, Microsoft Store has a registry of the app somewhere on my system. Does anyone know a way to clear that registry, so that I can start afresh? Or any other solution would be good.

Welcome to the HP support community.
Perform root level uninstallation to remove all the printer related software's.
- In Windows, search for and open Programs and Features.
- Select your HP printer.
- Select Uninstall.
- In Windows, search for and open Devices and Printers.
- In the Devices and Printers window look for your HP Printer. If you see it listed, right-click on it and choose "Delete" or "Remove Device.”
- Open up the run command with the "Windows Key + R" key combo.
- Type printui.exe /s and click OK.
- Click on Drivers tab.
- Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it click on it and click Remove at the bottom.
- Select OK.
- Remove all instances of the same.
- Select Apply and OK on the Print Server Properties windows.
- Close Devices and Printers.
- Restart the PC again.
Download and install HP Smart app
Click here to download the driver.
I hope that helps.

Hi there. Thanks for getting back to me.
Unfortunately, what you suggested did not work.
- Nothing by HP was listed in Programs and Features.
- I ran the printui.exe /s command and looked under the 'Drivers' tab, but no HP listing was there.
- I did manage to remove the HP printer device from Printers and Scanners in Windows Settings.
- I then attempted to install HP Smart from Microsoft Store but the same issue remains: I click "install" and the button does not change to "installing." Nothing happens.
I actually tried to download another app on Microsoft Store (Amazon Prime Video for Windows) and that wouldn't install either. So, the problem seems to be with my Microsoft Store app. Do you know any fixes for that?
Thanks.
