macOS 12.0 Monterey

I am not able to complete Easy Start because it arrives at a page with the heading, "HP Product Improvement Study is a research program..." and it hangs here. An empty red box is shown, and I can put a single digit into that box. But I don't know what it is, and Continue never works. (note that this is on Ventura OS, while HP seems to think Mac is only at Monterey)

A bit more info: I can "add" this printer through system settings, and it works fine at the system level. I can print and scan using the clunky system UI. But I'd like to use HP Smart for some of the great features it offers. I just can NOT get it installed for some reason, and it is frustrating as heck. I've reset my printers, I've deleted and reinstalled all the HP stuff that I'm aware of. I've skipped Easy Start.... but then it will never scan. Help?
