When I try to print outside app - the printer shows up but it doesn’t print. I can only print using the app so I now need to save everything in files and then print. My kids can no longer print as well - same issue - printer pops up but doesn’t print. Please help

Hi @Sg1233,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP ENVY Photo 7855 All-in-One Printer is having communication issues when printing outside of the HP Smart app. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue.
Restart Printer and Devices
- Turn off the printer, unplug it for 30 seconds, and plug it back in.
- Restart your computer and other devices (like your kids' devices).
Check Printer Status in Control Panel/Settings
- On your PC, go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers (or Settings > Printers & Scanners in Windows 10/11).
- Ensure your printer is set as the default printer. Right-click the printer and select Set as Default.
- Check if the printer shows as Ready and not Offline.
Update Printer Drivers
- Download and install the latest drivers for your printer from the HP support site. Ensure that the correct drivers are installed on your kids' devices as well.
Check Windows Print Spooler
- Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
- Find Print Spooler, right-click, and select Restart.
Check for Windows Updates
- Ensure your computer is fully updated by going to Settings > Update & Security > Check for updates.
Disable Any Third-Party Firewall/Antivirus Temporarily
- Some third-party firewall or antivirus programs might be blocking the print jobs. Temporarily disable them to see if printing outside the app works.
Reinstall the Printer
- Remove the printer from Devices and Printers or Printers & Scanners.
- Reinstall the printer by going to Add a Printer and selecting your HP ENVY Photo 7855.
Test Printer on Another Device
- Try printing from another computer or device to see if it works outside the HP app. This helps identify if the problem is specific to one device.

Check Network Settings
- Ensure the printer and all devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.
- If the printer is on a different network, it may not be receiving print jobs.
Reinstall the HP Smart App
- Since you're able to print via the HP Smart app, try reinstalling it on all devices to ensure it's up-to-date and working properly.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
