Hello,
I keep getting an error message when trying to scan through flatbet on my HP OfficeJet 8720 Pro using the "HP Easy Scan" app on my Mac. However, I don't get this error message and the scanners scans normally through flatbed if I am using the "HP Smart" app.
The thing is that I want to use the "HP Easy Scan" and not the "HP Smart" app since the "HP Easy Scan" supports the OCR feature when I want to export my scanned documents into PDF; I'm not sure if the feature is available also in the "HP Smart" app, but if it is available, HP did a great job in hiding it because I cannot find it.
The error message is:
Title: Automatic Document Feeder is Empty
Body: No items were detected in the Automatic Document Feeder. Please place your originals into the Automatic Document Feeder and start the scan again.
Thank you for your help and time.

@TycoonJe, Welcome to HP Support Community!
I assume that you are using a Mac Computer with Mac OS 10.15 Catalina. Unfortunately, HP Easy Scan is not currently supported in macOS Catalina. HP is working with Apple to get HP Easy Scan and Scan to computer back to full functionality as quickly as possible.
I would recommend you to go through a similar post that speaks about the scanning issues after Mac OS update.
Also, refer to the document https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c06455960 for help.

Hi,
Although HP Easy Scan is not currently available, you may try the Smart Tasks feature within HP Smart, it should provide some basic OCR capabilities:

Hope that may help,

macOS 10.15.3 (released 1/28/2020) contains the fix for this issue. Once updated HP Easy Scan will be able to scan from the glass or the ADF as normal.
Scan to Computer is also fixed with 10.15.3.
I did notice that if the printer is in sleep mode, some times an error will be reported. But if you wake the printer by inserting a page in the ADF or touching the screen you will be able to scan normally.
