I had the HP Support Solutions Framework scan for my printer and it correctly identified it and the serial number. The update page showed that a 2020 firmware update is available for my specific printer. I downloaded the update file (OJP8600_N911g-n_2011A.exe) from there, and began the install.
It scans and correctly finds my printer and it's current firmware revision (CKP1CN1829AR), but the printer is not selectable...status column says "not applicable".
Ideas to install the updated firmware?

Solved it!
used the Embedded Web Server (typed the IP address...the 192.168.x.x...for the printer into a web browser) and compared settings on an identical printer that works compared to this one that didn't.
Under the network tab, I changed the following settings:
Enabled Bonjour (with highest priority service = LPD)
Wireless Direct set to Off
Web Services set to Enable WS Discovery AND WSD Print
Clicked "apply" after each change.
Easy Peasy....printer now shows as the pull-down option when printing from my iPhone, and doesn't expect an AirPrint printer.
