I'm trying to upgrade the firmware on my Deskjet 3520. It currently has STP1FN1224AR, and STP1FN1942AR is available. I downloaded the firmware updater, but when I try to update it gives me an error:
"Something seems to be wrong with your device.
Device is in error state and cannot be refreshed because of this. Resolve the problem and try again."
The printer is not in an error state. It prints and scans, but cannot connect to my wireless if I enable PMF, so I need to upgrade the firmware.
I've tried a hard reset (unplug, hold power 30 seconds), but I still get the same error. I also tried resetting it to factory defaults, but get the same error.

@GlowingApple, Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Reset the printer
- With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the printer.
- Turn ON the printer, if it does not automatically turn on.
- Wait until the printer is idle and silent before you proceed.
Note: HP recommends connecting the printer directly to a wall outlet rather than a surge protector or a power strip.
Click here to download and install the latest firmware from your MAC. Make sure the printer and the MAC are connected. If not, you will not be able to install the firmware.
