I am trying to add an HP Printer to my new computer using HP Smart app. The printer is listed and online but when I select it to be added I get the error message: "Select a Different Printer" HP Officejet 8710 must be turned on to add it to HP Smart. Once the printer is turned on. tap OK to refresh, and then select the printer again" I have done this multiple time and the printer that is online shows offline and will not connect. What can I do to connect this printer to HP Smart app? The printer is working fine but will not connect to the app.

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
Restart the Printer
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
- Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
- Wait for 60 seconds and connect the power cord back in.
- Turn on the printer.
Ensure the Printer is on the Same Network
On the printer's control panel:
Go to Wireless Settings > Wireless Network Test Report or Wi-Fi Status.
Make sure it is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer.
If it is on a different network (e.g. a guest network), HP Smart won’t detect it.
Run HP Smart:
- Download and run the HP Smart. Follow the prompts to diagnose and fix common printing issues.

Update Printer Firmware (Update the firmware on an HP printer | HP® Support)
- Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page. Enter your printer model number and search for the latest firmware update. Follow the instructions to download and install the firmware update.
Add Printer via IP Address
If HP Smart still can't find the printer:
Get the printer’s IP address from its control panel:
Menu > Network Settings > View IP Address
Open a browser and type in the IP address. If the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS) page opens, the network connection is fine.
In HP Smart, click “Add Printer” > “Set Up a New Printer” > “Add Printer by IP Address” and enter the IP manually.
