Product: HP Envy Pro 6458
Problem: the executive buttons to initiate printing or scanning changed. Now actions seem to revert to printer saved items. Can't print or scan from printer top and save to my computer as I have done in the past.

I see that you are facing printer issues.
I suggest you reinstall the driver and connect the printer to check if that fixes the issue.
You can follow the steps under this link to uninstall.
