Change my broadband and now when resetting up printer, it asks for a custom password I never remember setting up. Even customer care couldn't seem to help me. There is no pin listed on the printer label and at wits end trying to reconnect to my printer. Can anyone help. Surely there must be some way to either do a factory reset or find out what this password is. No sign of it on my HP account etc. If i were to give the printer away to someone, how would they be able to set it up with this roadblock?

@owensre, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The HP DeskJet 2633 sometimes "remembers" old Wi-Fi configurations and enters a state where it requests a custom password (usually the Wi-Fi Direct password or a previously configured admin password). Let's walk through all your options to reset and get past this:
Option 1: Reset the Network Settings (Recommended)
This will erase all custom Wi-Fi and password settings, including any stored passwords.
- Turn the printer ON (with paper and ink installed).
- Press and hold both the Wireless button 📶 and the Cancel (X) button at the same time for 5 seconds.
- The wireless light will begin to blink, meaning it’s ready for setup.
- This will put your printer into setup mode (like when it was new), allowing you to reconfigure from scratch using the HP Smart app.
Option 2: Use Wi-Fi Direct Temporarily
If you can't reset right away, connect directly using Wi-Fi Direct:
- On the printer, press the Wi-Fi Direct button (it looks like a wireless icon with a phone/laptop).
- The printer should print a page or display the Wi-Fi Direct name and password.
- On your PC or phone, go to Wi-Fi settings and connect to the network shown (e.g., DIRECT-xx-HP DeskJet 2630).
- Enter the Wi-Fi Direct password printed (default is usually 12345678 if not changed).
- Open the HP Smart app, go to Advanced Settings, and reconnect the printer to your new home Wi-Fi.
Option 3: Full Factory Reset (if needed)
If the above doesn't work, try a factory reset (a bit trickier, but wipes everything):
- Power ON the printer.
- Disconnect the power cord without turning it off.
- Press and hold the Cancel (X) and Wireless buttons together.
- While holding them, plug the power cord back in, and continue holding for 10–15 seconds.
- Release when the lights flash or the printer powers off/on.
- This may restore the printer to full factory defaults.
- After reset, use the HP Smart app to re-add the printer (available from Microsoft Store or hp.com).
- Make sure your device and printer are on the same Wi-Fi network.
- If giving the printer away: perform the factory reset, and the new user can set it up fresh.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
