Hi @Frugallass,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
I'd be happy to help you!
What password are you referring to?
Meanwhile, follow the steps below.
To change the password on your HP Color LaserJet Pro MFP M183fw, follow these steps:
Access the Embedded Web Server (EWS)
Connect to the Same Network:
- Ensure your printer is connected to the same network as your computer or mobile device.
Find the Printer’s IP Address:
- On the printer control panel, go to the Home screen.
- Tap on the Wireless icon or the Network icon to display the network status screen.
- Note the printer’s IP address (e.g., 192.168.1.2).
Open a Web Browser:
- On your computer or mobile device, open a web browser.
Enter the Printer’s IP Address:
- In the address bar, type the printer’s IP address and press Enter. This will open the printer's Embedded Web Server (EWS).
Log in to the EWS
- Enter Username and Password:
- If you have previously set a username and password, enter them to log in.
- If you have not set a password, the default username might be "admin" and the password might be blank.
Change the Password
Navigate to the Security Tab:
- Once logged in, go to the "Settings" or "Security" tab. The exact location may vary depending on the firmware version.
Select the Password Settings:
- Look for an option such as "Password Settings" or "Administrator Settings."
Change the Password:
- Enter the new password you want to use.
- Confirm the new password by entering it again.
- Save the changes.
Additional Steps (if required)
Reboot the Printer:
- Restart the printer to ensure the new password settings take effect.
Update Network Settings (if necessary):
- If your printer is connected to a network, you might need to update any saved passwords on other devices connected to the printer.
If you encounter any difficulties, refer to the user manual
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.
