Any idea why the USB connection will do a scan fine.  But won't do a print job?  Im not wanting to use the wireless  option, but I did go thru steps with the Wireless Wizard and my printer display screen has a blinking blue light at the Wireless icon.

Hi @nankling,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your Chromebook can successfully scan but fails to print when connected to your HP OfficeJet 4630 via USB, the issue could be related to a variety of factors, including drivers, settings, or the USB connection itself. Here's a comprehensive guide to help troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Verify Printer Setup and Connection

Ensure USB Connection:

  • Double-check that the USB cable is securely connected to both the printer and the Chromebook. Try using a different USB port on the Chromebook or a different USB cable to rule out a faulty connection.

Power Cycle:

  • Turn off both your printer and Chromebook. Unplug the printer, wait for about 30 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on. Restart your Chromebook and try printing again.

2. Check Printer and Chromebook Settings

Printer Status:

  • Make sure that the printer is set to the correct input source and is ready to print. Ensure there are no error messages on the printer display.

Chromebook Printer Settings:

  • Go to Settings on your Chromebook.
  • Navigate to Advanced > Printing > Printers.
  • Check if your HP OfficeJet 4630 appears in the list of printers. If not, add it manually.

3. Update Printer Drivers and Software

Chrome OS Updates:

  • Ensure your Chromebook is updated to the latest version of Chrome OS.

Printer Drivers:

  • Chromebooks typically use built-in drivers for most printers, but you can also check if there's a specific HP driver or app available for your model in the Chrome Web Store or from HP’s website.

4. Test with Different Document

  • Try a Different Document:
    • Attempt to print a different document or image to ensure the issue is not with the specific file you’re trying to print.

5. Use Google Cloud Print (if applicable)

  • Set Up Google Cloud Print:
    • While you prefer not to use wireless, Google Cloud Print can be a fallback if USB printing fails. However, please note that Google Cloud Print has been deprecated as of December 2020.

6. Check for Firmware Updates

  • Update Printer Firmware:
    • Visit the HP Support website to check for firmware updates for your HP OfficeJet 4630. Updating the firmware may resolve compatibility issues.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
