I just installed this printer (replaced an old HP), it went smoothly. I am on. MacBook Pro (OS Sonoma, which wasn't an option in the dropdown). I cannot print in color from my laptop. There's no option to print in color or B&W/greyscale; it just only prints (and previews) in greyscale. I just tried from my phone and it previews, has the option and prints in color.
I've tried all the troubleshooting, but regardless of how I try to print, it hasn't ever given me an option for color, from my laptop. Note, that when I print out a printer information report, that prints in color.
It doesn't matter if it's a pdf, jpg etc.
Thank you for your help!

Hi @Lisa_Quinn,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand your HP ENVY Inspire 7955e is correctly set up on your phone but not showing color printing options on your MacBook Pro.
Here are a few steps you can try to resolve this issue:
1. Update Printer Drivers
- Go to HP’s Support Website: Download the latest drivers for macOS 12.0 Monterey or a compatible driver if macOS Sonoma isn’t available. Even though you're on macOS Sonoma, drivers for Monterey should work if no specific drivers are available for Sonoma.
- Install the Drivers: Follow the installation instructions and restart your MacBook after installation.
2. Check Printer Preferences
- Open System Preferences: Go to Printers & Scanners.
- Select Your Printer: Click on the HP ENVY Inspire 7955e.
- Open Print Queue: Click Open Print Queue.
- Printer Preferences: Look for options related to color management in the print dialog. Make sure color printing is enabled.
3. Adjust Print Settings in Applications
- Print Dialog: When printing from an application (like Preview or Adobe Acrobat), check the print dialog box for any color options.
- Color Options: Look for a dropdown or setting that allows you to select color or grayscale.
4. Use HP Smart App
- Download HP Smart: Ensure you have the HP Smart app installed on your MacBook.
- Check App Settings: Sometimes, printing preferences in the app might differ from system preferences.
5. Reset Printing System
- Open System Preferences: Go to Printers & Scanners.
- Reset Printing System: Right-click in the Printers list and choose Reset printing system. This will remove all printers and reset the system.
- Re-add the Printer: After resetting, add your HP ENVY Inspire 7955e again.
6. Firmware Update Update the firmware on an HP printer
- Check for Firmware Updates: Sometimes, updating the printer’s firmware can resolve issues. You can check for updates through the HP Smart app or the printer's web interface.

I hope this helps.

Thank you! I ended up uninstalling & reinstalling the printer. Somehow when it first installed, the “use” field was generic. I changed that to HP (choice from my printer) and it fixed it. IDK how that was an option, but your help made me look at everything. The drivers are now updated as well. Thank you!
