While struggling to get my printer to connect to a new wi-GI a person called me and said he was from HP Support. He proceeded to to repair my connection, and told me I had picked up a bug when we moved. Over the course of 4 hours he fixed my issue. He wants $199.00 and asked me for a credit card. Is he with HP ?

**he won’t send me a invoice till I pay

Welcome to the HP English Community --

I am sorry this happened to you.

Not HP.

Your computer was never full of bugs.

HP does not suddenly cold-call you when you are in trouble.

No legitimate company does this.

Somehow, perhaps through social media or other mishaps, you might have inadvertently posted "too much" of your personal information online -- Scammers are very good at sweeping up posted information and then use it for their own nefarious purposes.  In this case, it seems they found your phone number and used it against you.

Landing on a scam site is the easiest way to end up in trouble.

There are thousands of scam sites.

There is perhaps sneaky malware or monitoring software on your computer.

Use your own security software to deep-scan your computer.

If you can, uninstall anything Mr. Helpful installed on your computer.

If you need to do so, contact your Bank --

Normally, these people get your credit card ahead of time.

Pretending to provide an invoice after they have your money is somewhat useless.

Do not trust Tags or information added to Community Posts that direct you to contact a phone number, email, chat, or social media.

HP Support does not use Community "Tags" and does not promise help if you would just hand out a credit card number.

Online Case Submission to HP Support is available to those whose devices registered and are still in Warranty.

Some (Most) regions display phone / chat contact information only after the case is submitted online.

Not every issue is covered under the standard Hardware Warranty.  Purchased Care Pack Warranties differ by contract.

HP is not a "general" repair facility: Requests for out-of-warranty repairs are usually not accepted.

If the problem is hardware, if your device is in Warranty, if your device is Registered, and you cannot submit your case to Support, let us know and we will forward a request.

Important

Never post private information in the HP Community!

Thieves are waiting - do not just hand out your privacy to their keeping.

HP Support does not free-post phone numbers for HP Support on the Internet.

Your computer is not full of bugs and you do not need to pay a fee for driver support.

Pay attention to where you are going.

Do not wander around on the Internet looking for help –

When looking for help, start only at legitimate web sites for your product
