Hi there!
I have a Dell laptop running on Windows 10. It was recently sent to Dell for hardware issues related to memory storage. Now that I have it back, it will not connect to the printer. I get the error that driver is not found or x8000ffff. I can print from the hp app on my computer, but not any files. I can also print from my phone without issues. Please help.

Hi @DahjiPahji,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It seems like your Dell laptop is encountering a printer driver issue after being serviced, leading to the "driver not found" error and the x8000ffff error code. Here's a step-by-step guide to help resolve this.
Uninstall Old Printer Drivers
- Open Control Panel:
- Type Control Panel in the Windows search bar and press Enter.
- Go to "Devices and Printers":
- Find your HP OfficeJet Pro 6970 listed under "Printers".
- Right-click on it and select Remove Device.
- Uninstall Old Driver:
- Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
- Expand the Print queues section.
- Right-click on your printer and select Uninstall device.
- Clear any remaining drivers:
- Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features.
- Uninstall any HP printer-related software.
Reinstall the Printer Driver
- Download the Latest Driver:
- Visit the HP Support page for the OfficeJet Pro 6970 series.
- Download the latest printer driver for Windows 10.
- Install the Driver:
- Run the installer, and follow the on-screen instructions.
- When prompted, select the option for a wireless connection if your printer is connected via Wi-Fi.
Verify Printer Settings
- Check Default Printer:
- Open Devices and Printers from the Control Panel.
- Right-click your HP OfficeJet Pro 6970 and set it as the Default Printer.
- Run HP Print and Scan Doctor:
- Download and run the HP Print and Scan Doctor tool.
- This tool will help troubleshoot any remaining issues with printer connectivity.
Windows Update (Optional)
- Make sure your Windows 10 is fully up to date:
- Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
- Install any available updates and restart your computer.
After reinstalling the printer driver and setting it as the default printer, your laptop should be able to print without issues. Let me know how it goes!
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
