I am trying to connect my HP Laserjet P1006 to a new computer with the unfortunate Windows 11. I have downloaded the "HP Scan and Print Doctor" THREE TIMES.  Each time I get to the Get Installed prompt and a 404 error message appears
"Page Can't Be Reached."
HP Virtual Assist was worthless.

Is there a patch or driver I can locate and install?

Is there a phone support number I can contact?

This cannot be that difficult?

Hi @markf12,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

To connect your HP LaserJet L1006 printer to a new computer running Windows 11, you'll need to install the appropriate drivers and ensure the printer is properly connected. Follow these steps:

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Connect the Printer to Your Computer:

  • Plug the USB cable from your HP LaserJet L1006 printer into a USB port on your computer.

Download the Driver:

  • Go to the HP Support website.
  • Enter "HP LaserJet L1006" in the search bar and select your printer model.
  • Choose "Software and Drivers" from the options available.

Select Your Operating System:

  • Select "Windows 11" as your operating system.
  • If Windows 11 is not listed, you can select Windows 10, as many Windows 10 drivers are compatible with Windows 11.

Download the Driver:

  • Download the full-featured driver or the basic driver package available.
  • Once downloaded, open the installer and follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver.

Install the Driver:

  • Run the downloaded driver installer.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation.
  • When prompted, ensure your printer is connected to the computer and turned on.

Check Printer Connection:

  • After installation, go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners on your Windows 11 computer.
  • Check if your HP LaserJet L1006 printer is listed. If it is, you should be able to print a test page to confirm the connection.

If you do not find any drivers, there could be compatibility issues with your current OS.

Windows Update:

  • Sometimes, Windows Update can automatically detect and install the necessary drivers for your printer.
  • Go to Settings > Windows Update and check for updates. Install any available updates and see if the printer driver is included.

Use a Generic Driver:

  • If the specific driver for HP LaserJet L1006 is not available, you can try using a generic driver.
  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & scanners > Add a printer or scanner.
  • Choose "The printer that I want isn't listed" and then "Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings."
  • Select the "Use an existing port" option and choose the USB port your printer is connected to.

Choose "HP" from the manufacturer list or click here and select a generic HP LaserJet driver from the list.

If this does not help, I recommend you contact phone support for further assistance.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

Hi Elohi:

Thank you for your detailed instructions.  Thanks to these instructions, I have connected my HP Laserjet to my new computer.  The key was  your sentence, "IF Windows 11 is not listed, you can select Windows 10, as many Windows 10 drivers are compatible with Windows 11."  When it asked for Operating System previously, I entered Windows 11 and received a 404 error message when I tried to download it.

This time, I entered Windows 10 and voila, drivers downloaded, connection is up and running.

My Laserjet L1006 is an old one from 2007 but it still runs beautifully.  And I hope to use it until the rollers wear out.

Thanks again,
Mark
