Hi @Angie4942
Welcome to the HP support community.
I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP printer, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today. Let's go through the process step-by-step to ensure you’ve got everything set up correctly and then troubleshoot why the printer isn't printing.
1. Check Compatibility
- macOS Version: First, make sure that the macOS version on your old Mac is supported by the drivers for the HP DeskJet 2810e. This printer model should be compatible with macOS versions, but older versions of macOS might not be supported by the latest HP drivers. If you're running an older macOS version, you may need to find compatible drivers or use AirPrint, click here
2. Install the Correct Drivers
- Visit HP’s Support Website: Go to the HP Support page and enter your printer model (DeskJet 2810e). click here
- Download Drivers: Look for the macOS drivers for your printer. Make sure they are compatible with the macOS version you are using.
- Use the HP Easy Start App: If you haven't already, download the HP Easy Start app for macOS from the HP Easy Start page and run it to install the printer drivers automatically.
- Using AirPrint: If you don’t want to deal with downloading drivers, check if your printer supports AirPrint, which is Apple’s built-in printing technology. If it does, you can select the printer in your Print Dialog without needing additional drivers.
3. Check the Printer Connection
- Wi-Fi Connection: If you’re connecting the printer wirelessly (via Wi-Fi), make sure that both your Mac and the printer are connected to the same Wi-Fi network. On the printer’s control panel, navigate to the Wi-Fi settings to confirm the connection.
4. Add Printer Manually to macOS
- Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Click the "+" button to add a printer.
- Select the HP DeskJet 2810e from the list of available printers. If you see AirPrint listed, choose that. If you see the printer with a specific driver (like "HP DeskJet 2800 series"), choose that instead.
- Click Add and set it as the default printer if prompted.
5. Reset Printing System (if necessary)
If the printer still isn’t working, you might need to reset the printing system:
- Go to System Preferences > Printers & Scanners.
- Right-click (or Control-click) in the left pane where the printers are listed.
- Select Reset printing system.
- After resetting, go through the process of adding your printer again as described in step 4.
I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
Please click “Accepted Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.
-Regards
