Hi @al385,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP ENVY Pro 6458 All-in-One Printer keeps showing as offline despite being connected via USB or Wi-Fi Direct, here are some troubleshooting steps you can try.

Check Printer Status:

  • Ensure the printer is powered on.
  • Check for any error messages or warning lights on the printer.

USB Cable Connection:

  • Make sure the USB cable is properly connected to both the printer and your desktop.
  • Try using a different USB port on your desktop or a different USB cable to rule out a faulty cable or port.

Wi-Fi Direct Connection:

  • Make sure both your printer and desktop are connected to the same network if using Wi-Fi. If you're using Wi-Fi Direct, ensure that the Wi-Fi Direct feature is enabled on the printer and the desktop is connected to the correct network.

Restart Devices:

  • Restart both the printer and your desktop computer.
  • Power cycle your router if using Wi-Fi to ensure a stable network connection.

Set Printer as Default:

  • Open the Control Panel on your desktop, go to Devices and Printers, right-click on the HP ENVY Pro 6458 printer, and select Set as Default Printer.

Update Printer Drivers:

  • Go to the HP Support website and check if there are any updates for your printer’s drivers.
  • Download and install the latest drivers for your model.
  • If you installed the printer via a CD or an outdated version, uninstall the old drivers first and reinstall the latest ones from the website.

Check Printer in Windows Settings:

  • Open Settings on your desktop.
  • Go to Devices > Printers & Scanners.
  • Select the HP ENVY Pro 6458 printer, click Manage, and then click Set as Default Printer.

Troubleshoot Printer via Windows:

  • Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners, and select your printer.
  • Click Manage, then Run the troubleshooter and follow the on-screen instructions.

Check Printer Queue:

  • Open Devices and Printers.
  • Right-click your printer and select See what's printing.
  • Cancel any stuck print jobs and clear the queue.

Reset Printer Network Settings:

  • If you’re using Wi-Fi Direct, reset the network settings on the printer by going to the Printer Settings menu and selecting Network > Reset.
  • Reconnect the printer to your network or Wi-Fi Direct after resetting.

Reinstall Printer:

  • Remove the printer from your desktop (in Devices and Printers), restart your computer, and then add the printer back using the Add a Printer option in Settings.

Check for Conflicting Software:

  • Ensure there are no conflicting software or security settings on your computer blocking the printer's connection. You can temporarily disable antivirus/firewall software to check if it's the cause.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
