Hello,
I am using a HP ENVY 4520 Printer. I have it attached to my PCs (Windows 7 Professional, ServicePack 1, all MS-Fixes applied) via a Printer-Server. Printing from 64-application works fine, but when printing from a 32-bit application (e.g. Thunderbird) I get the error-popup:
"Printer driver host for 32bit applications has stopped working" with the following detail-information:
Problem signature:

I am running the printer-driver EN4500_Basicx64_198.exe (I just checked that it is current).
Thank you for any help you can give me!

Thanks for the reply,
Recommend you to uninstall the printer again.
This time when you click on Windows Update, search for Deskjet 990c and use that driver to complete the setup.
Let me know if this worked.

Welcome to HP Forums @LA17
Thanks for the post, I understand that you are getting an error when printing from Thunderbird or any other 32bit application. I will be happy to help.
Please try the steps suggested below.
Open devices and printers from the control panel.
Right-click on your printer and remove it.
Restart the computer.
Open devices and printers again.
Click on Add printer.
Add as local printer.
Create a new port TCP/IP
Enter the IP address of your printer (it can found on the printer network settings or network test page)
When you are entering the IP address, you will have a checkbox that says "Query the printer and automatically select the driver to use."
Make use to Uncheck this option.
Click on the next button.
Then it would give you a lot of printer drivers to select from.
On the bottom of this screen, you will have an option, to click on Windows update. Please click on it.
This should install the correct printer driver for your printer and will resolve the concern you are facing.
Let me know if this worked.

Hallo Chimney_83,
thanky a lot for your fast response! I tried what you suggested but when I pushed on the "Windows update" - button I got a long list of printer-drivers but a "ENVY 4524" was not listed, only a "ENVY 7640". I tried this printer but got the same results (crash in hpygidudm.dll).Please advise what I could do next.

Hello Chimney_83,
this time it worked. Now I can print from Thunderbird.
What is the difference between the two drivers / what am I loosing (printer-resolution,...?) when switching to a Deskjet 990C?
Thank you very much!

Hi! @LA17, thanks for the response.
Thanks for trying out the steps.
It not much of a difference both the drivers are a universal printer driver.
Sometimes you just have to choose the closest driver for the printer.
Hope this helps!
Have a great day! 🙂
