HP Officejet Pro 8725
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

The Cumulative Update for Windows 10 Version 1903 KB4517211 is causing the printer spooler service to stop and the installed printer is no longer recognized. It is an HP Officejet Pro 8725 printer. When I go into services.msc I can start the spooler and my printer then reappears but as soon as I try to print the spooler service stops.

Today Microsoft do not solve the problem, updates KB4524147, October 4, do not solve the problem! HP printer do not print!

Hp say Officejet pro 8725 is compatible with windows 10 64 bits, but today is not!!! I can´t print! HP is working on the solution??? my printer is connected with usb.

Uninstalling KB4524147 remedies the situation and the printer again works fine. Finally in 8 October  after install KB4517389 I am able to print in HP Officejet pro 8725. All of us wait more ten days!! this "bug" affects thousand of HP printers, and HP did not Know anything? strange...….

At this moment there is no reason to believe the HP OfficeJet Pro 8725 is suddenly incompatible with Windows 10.

There may well be fallout from a Windows Update - it does happen on occasion.

➡️  If you have not done so, clear and reset the Print Spooler / Print Service (how-to instructions below)

Windows print spooler / print service information and Reset

If the print job will not cancel or if the print job is stuck in the queue

If the issue is due to Print Services being stuck / hung, the following should fix the problem.

Stop print service, clear the print folder, Start print service

Control Panel > icon view > Administrative Tools > Services

Scroll down, find, Right-Click, and Stop Print Spooler Service

Open File Explorer (formally Windows Explorer)

Navigate to the folder and Delete the files from folder C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS

Start Print Spooler Service

➡️If you have not done so, consider: Uninstall printer software from Programs and Features > Restart > download-save-install the printer Full Feature Software > Restart the computer and log in

Commentary

HP and Microsoft do work closely on issues - if there is a relationship between any issues between the Windows Print Service and the printer software, HP will address and correct any problems.

In general,

  1. The printer software has no control over the Windows print spooler / print service.
  2. The software uses the Print Service but cannot fix it / control it / modify the way the service works.

The Print Service issue was supposed to be addressed in

Scroll to bottom or search for keyword "print"

Recommend to those reading that the patch / Windows Update can be removed.

As well, consider:

Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Pause Updates for 7 days

If you have not done so, check with Microsoft to see what others are saying at the Microsoft forum.

Check for Windows Updates again tomorrow - if this is a "Microsoft" goof, Microsoft staff are working on fixing it!

Yes, the 8-Oct-2019 release of KB4517389 appears to have fixed the spooler problem.

For those reading:

There was more than one Update in the group that might have impacted the spooler, the Update ending in "147" was one of these.

The update KB4517389 appears to restore / correct the Windows Spooler issue.

I offer my personal apologies for the less than accurate portrayal of the problem:  In all of this, my own workstation and other personal machines (some of which run Linux and other that run Windows 10 Pro 1903) just never did exhibit the spooler issue.  Not being to "see" the issue did hamper my view point for a time.   Fortunately, a colleague was able to fill in the gaps.

For those needing the fix, it does appear that "389" delivers as indicated.

"and HP did not Know anything?"

Large companies like HP and other Microsoft Windows customers are aware when Windows falters.

HP and other companies provide Drivers and software that run in Windows.  For the most part, these drivers and software depend on and work with the Windows infrastructure (File System).   If Windows breaks, so can software, programs, libraries, and actions that depend on that part of Windows.

I am glad the issue is resolved for you.  No one wants to wait ten days for anything.

Thanks to Microsoft for finding and fixing the problem.
