HP DeskJet 4252e All-in-One Printer
Chrome OS

Initial setup of new printer - installed both color & B&W print cartridges as needed.

I want to print a color page in color

Using Dell Chromebook I open a single paged, color PDF file

I click on the printer icon

The single page appears in B&W alongside the Print window menu

The "More settings" does not allow me to toggle between color and B&W

The "Advanced settings" does not allow me to toggle between color and B&W

I select "Print" and a B&W page is printed.

Hi @AZSpikeNC,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your Dell Chromebook is only printing in black and white even though you've installed both color and black ink cartridges in your HP DeskJet 4252e printer, there are a few potential solutions to troubleshoot and resolve this issue. Here's how you can address the problem:

1. Check Printer Settings on Chromebook

Open Print Dialog:

  • Open the PDF file or document you want to print.
  • Click on the printer icon or use the Ctrl + P shortcut to open the print dialog.

Expand More Settings:

  • Click on More settings to expand the options. Look for any settings related to color or quality.

Check for Color Option:

  • Ensure that there's no color option available here. Sometimes it might be under a different section or a dropdown menu.

2. Update Printer Driver on Chromebook

Ensure Printer is Set Up Correctly:

  • Go to Settings on your Chromebook.
  • Navigate to Advanced > Printing > Printers.

Add or Check Printer:

  • Make sure your HP DeskJet 4252e printer is listed. If not, click Add Printer to add it.

Update Printer Driver:

  • Click on the printer name and check if there are any driver updates or settings that you can adjust.

3. Use HP Smart App

Download HP Smart App:

  • If you haven't already, download and install the HP Smart app from the Google Play Store.

Set Up Printer:

  • Open the HP Smart app and add your DeskJet 4252e printer if it's not already added.

Print from HP Smart App:

  • Use the HP Smart app to print your color document. The app often provides additional settings that can help resolve color printing issues.

4. Check Printer Settings on Printer

Printer Menu:

  • Check the printer’s own menu (using its control panel or screen) for any settings related to print quality or color management.

Default Print Settings:

  • Make sure the default print settings on the printer are set to color printing.

5. Update Printer Firmware

Check for Firmware Updates:

  • Go to the HP Support website and search for your printer model to see if there are any firmware updates available.

Update Firmware:

  • Follow the instructions on the HP website to download and install any available firmware updates.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
