Product: deskjet 2514

Trying to connect a printer to a mac laptop.  HP Deskjet 2514.  to Mac laptop.  We did it with a downloaded driver, redid it and restarted etc.  Seems to work and then as it is set to print it never makes it out of the queque.  The scanner seems to work but document never prints ...all looks good.   Could it be the adapter?  the USB end on the deskjet is plugged into a adapter as computer is USBc 

 

Is it worth it ot buy a different adapter or is there a another option for a cord?  Or is it a different problem.
