Deskjet 2544
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

When I look at my printer software it gives a Print option but no Scan option. I can see from other people's screen grabs with related problems that the interface button that just says 'Print' on mine says 'Print and Scan' on everyone else's

I have unplugged for ove 60 seconds, shut down and restarted the PC.

The only way I can scan anything is to go through the whole Print and Scan Doctor process- which gives a test scan option at the end but this takes a long time. It does scan if I do this. And it is supposed to be a scanner- it says so on the box.

I would just like to be able to scan  from a button within the printer software like I am supposed to be able to.

I wish HP had just put a scan button on the printer like everybody else does- rather than having to rely on going into this dodgy software to do it.

Well you get what you pay for with that price ot that printer.  However...

Scanning issues ...

Please try this scan solution:

HP Scan Extended

ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/scanners/HPScanExt/HPScanExt.msi   For Windows.

Once it's downloaded and installed, go to Start > All Programs > HP > HP Scan Extended > Run "HP Scan Extended"

Make searchable PDF scans with this free scanning software -   https://www.naps2.com/

I paid for a Printer- scanner. I do not believe it is unreasonable for it to do both of those things.

I can now scan with the new utility. Is it in beta though? It is full of white boxes and empty dropdowns. Opening that software reminded me of opening a box of chocolates at Christmas to find that my brother had already eaten them all.

Nope fully functional.  Everything is filled in and work perfect.
