Deskjet 2545
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I am trying to re-instal my Deskjet 2545 printer. From the hp website, I select the "HP Deskjet 2540 All-in-One Printer series Full Feature Software and Drivers". However, after the download is completed, I see that I have got "HP Deskjet 2540 series Basic Device Softeware". I am then not able to connect the printer to my computer. Can you please help?

@melandel

Thank you for responding,

It's great to have you back 😉

I'll tell you what, I will need the screenshot or picture of the error message - "outlook has blocked", so that I know exactly what we are dealing with,

That said, the link I shared was to help you perform a push button reset, if you haven't been able to access the link, even now: Click here to watch a YouTube video

If the issue persists & you aren't interested in sending out the image/screenshot as such, the only other options is to create a backup of all personal data and reinstall the windows of your device: Click here to access the article.

Let me know how that pans out

@melandel

Welcome to the HP Forums 🙂

I would like to take a moment and thank you for using this forum, it is a great place to find answers.

As I understand you are not able to install the printer or connect it to your computer,

No worries, as I'll be glad to help you, that said, I'll need a few more details to dissect your concern & provide an accurate solution:

Did you reinstall the drivers/software from root level to avoid the issue?

Have you considered using the Windows built-in drivers?

While you respond to that, here's what I recommend you do:

I recommend you delete the driver at the root level and retry, follow the steps below:

1.) In Windows, search for and open Programs and features

2.) Select your HP Printer

3.) Select Uninstall

4.) In Windows, search for and open Devices and printers

5.) In the Devices and Printers windows look for your HP printer. If you see it listed right-click on it and choose `Delete' or `Remove Device'

6.) Open up the run command with the "Windows key + R" key combo.

7.) Type printui.exe /s and click Ok. (Note: there is a space in between "printui.exe" and "/s")

8.) Click on the "Drivers" tab

9.) Look for HP Printer driver. If you see it Click on it and click Remove at the bottom

10.) Select Ok

11.) Select Apply and Ok on the Print Server Properties windows

12.) Close Devices and Printers

Then, Click here to access the HP website, find the drivers compatible with your windows and install it.

If the issue persists, please go ahead and install the windows built-in drivers:

If a full feature driver from HP is not available for your printer, you must install the built-in print driver. A full feature driver for one or more Windows versions is not available for your printer, either from the CD that shipped with your printer or from the HP website.

   NOTE:

Where is the download button? The HP print driver is built into the Windows operating system or is installed through the Windows Update feature on your computer. You do not need to download anything from a website in order to print, scan, or fax.

See the Frequently asked questions in this document for additional information, including how to scan using this driver.

(By the end of this article all the issues should be resolved)

If you would like to thank me for my efforts to help you,

Followed by clicking on the "Accept as solution" button.

Have a great day!

After I go to 'printui.exe /s' and click on the Drivers tab, I see the driver for the Deskjet 2540 printer. When I try to remove it, I get a message "Unable to remove HP Deskjet 2540 Series Class Driver, x64, Type 4 - User Node driver. " What should I do now?

HP Recommended

I tried ti re-install the driver from the HP website. I do not know what 'root level' means.

@melandel

Thank you for replying with this detailed response 😉

I appreciate your time and efforts,

The term root level is explained in the series of steps I had provided earlier,

its the process of the complete removal of the printer driver and then installation of the drivers, that said, if the device isn't working I recommend using the windows built-in drivers, please try the steps mentioned below (if not done already)

Please keep me posted with the details and the results of the above steps as well:

As I said earlier, I am not been able to remove the printer driver in Print Server Properties>Drivers. How can I do this?

@melandel

Thank you for responding,

It's great to have you back 😉

Could you elaborate on why it isn't being removed? do you get an error message?

Also, if you've attempted to install the windows built-in drivers instead?

Awaiting your response.

I have tried to remove the driver as you suggested by using "printui.exe /s>Drivers>HP Deskjet 2540 ....>OK" and get the message that "Unable to remove HP Deskjet 2540 Series Class Driver , x64, Type 4 -User Mode Driver. The specified print driver is currently in use." I have not tried to install the Windows built-in driver as I wanted to remove the above driver first.

@melandel,

It is nice to hear from you again. Thanks for the update and your patience and time are greatly appreciated. You've displayed terrific persistence, superb technical skills coupled with an immaculate attitude to try and resolve the issue, Kudos to you for a job well done. 🙂 As@Riddle_Decipher is out for the day, I am taking over from here.

Please perform all these steps to uninstall and reinstall the printer drivers:

Please perform a hard reset on the printer from this link: https://hp.care/2IpfrfG (Step 1: Reset the printer)

  • Uninstall the printer from "programs and features" which can be accessed by doing a right-click on the Windows button (Please have the printer Off and disconnected during uninstallation.)
  • Check in device manager, if the printer is listed there, please delete it. (Right click on the Windows button to access device manager)
  • Go to devices and printers, in control panel and select any printer listed there and you will get some options on the top.
  • Click on print server properties.
  • You will get a popup, click on the drivers tab and delete all the HP printer drivers listed there if any.
  • Delete all the instances of your printer listed in devices and printers.
  • Restart the PC.
  • Once the PC is on the desktop, press Win + R, it would bring a Run dialog box,
  • Type %temp% in the run box and click Ok or hit the Enter button.
  • It would bring up the temporary files folder. Delete the files in the folder (You might not be able to delete all the files).
  • If possible, delete the printer from the registries using Regedit or using any other 3rd party application.
  • Ignore the Regedit option if it cannot be done.
  • Restart the PC again.

Then download the latest full feature driver from   https://hp.care/2pSR2rl   and install it on the computer after selecting the correct operating system.

Connect the printer to your computer only when the setup prompts for the printer.

This should fix the issue.

If this does not do the trick, please download the Windows Built-in drivers by following instructions from this link: https://hp.care/2o3acvH

This should resolve the issue for you.

Please perform all these steps to the "T" for the issue to get resolved.

Please perform all these steps patiently as it is critical to resolving the issue. The trick is to remain patient, please. Good luck and keep me posted. I will keep a watch for your reply.

Hope this helps. Let me know how it goes. To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as Accepted Solution as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.

Take care and have a blessed week ahead. 🙂

Cheers!

I have carried out all the actions that you have suggested but still cannot connect my computer and my printer. What else can you suggest?
