It was weird but I happened by chance to have the Printer on when I turned on the PC and the drivers wew automatically loaded and all is fine now.

 

If you are ruinning Windows 10, Us caution when you install the update. Try to avoid it if possible!

I got a new Envy laptop running Win 7 64b and cannot find the driver for the older Deskjet 3940 I have always used as a traveling printer when I'm someplace other than my office for a few days.   I coudn't find the driver using the normal spport process, bt  I did follow the procedure to get to HP, then 3940, and seemingly it downloaded and installed a driver.    When I turn the printer power on/off, the computer beeps.  But other than that, it doesn't communicate or print test pages.  Is this hopeless now?
