I downloaded the drivers for my old Deskjet D2660 printer with the windows built-in solution (they came up as Deskjet 2020 series drivers), and they appeared to install correctly. However, no matter what I try, I cannot get any document to print.
Here are the solutions I've tried:
- Power cycled the printer by removing all sources of power for more than 30 seconds.
- Tried switching between DOT4_001 and USB001 printer ports
- Applied registry edits from this forum post (https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Printer-Setup-Software-Drivers/Printer-Driver/td-p/6337354)
- Removed the printer in device settings; deleted C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\W32X86 and C:\Windows\System32\spool\drivers\x64 directories; restarted my computer; and reinstalled the drivers.
A possible clue is the presence of two different 808 Errors in the Event Viewer, which occur every time the printer is connected:
The print spooler failed to load a plug-in module C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\DRIVERS\x64\3\PS5UI.DLL, error code 0x7E.
The print spooler failed to load a plug-in module C:\WINDOWS\system32\spool\DRIVERS\x64\3\UNIDRVUI.DLL, error code 0x7E.
Indeed, these .dll files are not in the indicated directory.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Hello @Hawks_Eye,
Thank you for your help. It is very appreciated.
How can I know whether the drivers are compatible with Windows 11? If I installed them through the Windows built-in solution, I assume that they must be compatible then, right?
I've tried all your other solutions to no avail, and I wasn't able to find any firmware files for the Deskjet D2660.
Are you able to speak to the failed to load PS5UI.DLL and UNIDRVUI.DLL 808 errors?
Thank you for your help,
Florent

Compatibility of Deskjet D2660 Drivers with Windows 11
To check whether the drivers for your HP Deskjet D2660 are compatible with Windows 11, you can follow these steps:
HP Customer Support Website: Visit the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page and enter your printer model (Deskjet D2660). You can find drivers specifically listed for the operating systems they support.
HP Image Assistant: Use the HP Image Assistant to easily identify and download software and driver updates for HP commercial notebook and desktop PCs. It offers detailed compatibility information:
Client Management Solutions: Check out the HP Driver Packs for alternative drivers and solutions:
Windows Device Manager: If you installed the drivers through Windows built-in solutions, they are likely compatible. You can still use Device Manager to confirm and update drivers:
- Search for and open Device Manager in Windows.
- Locate your printer under "Printers".
- Right-click the printer and select "Update driver".
- Choose to search automatically for updated driver software.
Error 808 - failed to load PS5UI.DLL and UNIDRVUI.DLL
The error "failed to load PS5UI.DLL and UNIDRVUI.DLL" indicates an issue with the printer driver files. Here are some steps to troubleshoot:
Reinstall Printer Drivers:
- Uninstall any existing printer drivers from your system.
- Reinstall the latest drivers by downloading them from HP's website or using Windows built-in solution.
Use Compatibility Troubleshooter:
- Right-click the driver installation file.
- Select "Properties".
- Go to the "Compatibility" tab.
- Run the compatibility troubleshooter.
Windows Update:
- Ensure your Windows 11 is up to date as updates can potentially resolve driver compatibility issues.
- Go to Settings > Windows Update and check for updates.
System Requirements:
- Verify the driver specifications to see if they support Windows 11.
- This information can be found on the driver files or HP's support page.
If the drivers were installed and updated using Windows built-in solution, they are likely compatible. However, if the error persists, you may need to contact HP phone support team for further assistance.
